I agree that governed trucks may start the problem, but a little courtesy would finish it real quick, like you said back off for 5 seconds so the hammer lane could get past and back in the driving lane we all win!

It ain't the trucks that cause the problems, it's the drivers. If you have a slow truck and you know who you are don't try to pass someone on a big hill in Pa. There are guys over there that can top any hill grossing 100k at the same speed they started at the bottom! Don't start with the large cars being the problem, my large car will go well above the 80mph the speedo goes to but I never drive faster than 60 mph, you should see how many times a day a freightliner/volvo comes up behind me and practically starts pushing me up the road. This happens alot in Ohio where the speed limit is 55 and I'm doing 55-58. This all goes back to respect and professionalism, if you want to pass someone don't ride their taillights until you can and when you go to pass get it done. And when you come back over 20 feet is not enough room between us, if for some reason you have to slam on the brakes I will eat the back end or your trailer and be at fault for the accident, in which case you better hope both my legs are broke and I can't get out of my truck. I only complain of this because it happens to me a couple of hundred times a day
JolliRoger Thanks this. -
I get paid by the hour so there is no rush for me. I will do the speed limit. If I am in a hurry for some reason I will go 3 mph above the speed limit in a truck. I was in michigan the other month. I was doing the speeed limit. I never once had to take the cruise off because everyone that was passing me was not taking their time about it. At least I am glad to know that I am not the only one who thinks like this about tailgating and passing.

I often run I-75 South from Ohio into KY . I'll be empty and stay in the center lane capable of running the speed limit . All too often a truck will speed past me in the left lane where trucks are prohibited coming off the bridge than move to the center lane in front of me staying there and slowing to 35 m.p.h. going up the hill . Once in a great while KSP will be there and ticket trucks in the left lane .

Yep I like that too, nothing like dragging 48k up that hill at 55mph only to find trucks blocking all three lanes doing 35mph
-
no argument there.
Not that I ever experience it, since I'm the one in the right lane (or shoulder in Oregon) doing *****15***** up the hill.
If I'm not doing the speed limit or better, I am NOT in any lane other than the right except to pass some poor slob who has it worse than I do on hills. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times that's happened- and still have enough fingers to hold a big burger.
As for passing me - or almost passing me. I have my cruise set to 60 - or 55 if I'm in Oregon or Kalifornia. At least once a day I have to back down because some steering wheel holder just HAS to pass me - and doesn't have any more under the hood than I do- so would spend miles driving next to me.
Obviously he won't back down - he just has to be first in line. After 10 or 20 seconds of staring at this genius I'll tap my clutch and back down - or, there are trucks stacked up behind him, I'll get on my brakes a bit.
As often as not, I'll hit the truck stop before him anyway. -
Sounds like a bunch of Cowboy truckers
i run into that problem alot in New Jersey -n- ini Pa. They like to hog up that center lane I'll pass with my frieght shaker next thing i know thier trying. To play catch up so i can't get back in -n- when they to they'll sit right on my bump ( still Yaking on the cell phone phone in 1 hand wheel in other )
Oh I Have my turn singal on to TIP for cowboy trucker a turn singal is a blinking light on the back of a tailer that lets youknow the driver in front of you is trying to get back in that lane . Just burns me up

my trucks not governed but i always do either the speed limit or 2-3 under it.and if i see a truck behind me that wasent there a couple seconds ago i get on the cb and tell him to come on around when he gets the chance and as soon as hes in the left lane ill back down till hes clear.BUT THATS JUST ME LOL.
2fuzy Thanks this. -
I'm pretty shiny new to truck driving. I've been truck B a few times, but often do tap off the cruise to let someone go. I religiously stay in the right on 2 lanes, and often the center or number three on multi lane roads.
I have learned stuff from this thread and will put it to use tonight. -
I can run 75 but normally stay around 65.
I will back off to let you pass, but if i'm going up a hill you need to have the power to pass or wait till I crest the hill cause I will nmot back off unless Someone infront is slower.
On the other hand people see me In a England truck passing them and want to play games by speeding up because they think I'm governed down. SURPRISE
