Well to be exact I got 1.36m.
But yes but to be fair I live texas winter can be harder on them because when you idle, it's hard to keep the temperature up high enough to actually burn the soot. And I don't idle hardly at all. But yes to ask your question. Aboutcascadia4life Thanks this. -
Thank you so much for getting back to me. Beyond impressed how much yours lasted! I have 780k miles on mine. DD13 2016. 3100 idle engine hours total! Working hours 20500 +/-... Trying to keep mine for as long as possible.
I wonder what kind of maintenance you did to get those many miles on your engine? Would love to discuss that. -
Thank you.
I actually rebuilt the engine at 1.27 million i dropped a valve on the head.
But my maintenance was done 95% by me. Did oil change every 45k with good oil I used full synthetic. I really didn't have one problem with the entire truck until about 850K then I started having emission problems, a nox sensor, death pump, mentoring valve basically, everything on the the emission side eventually had to be replaced except for the egr cooler. And I did all of that basically, before a million miles or right at a million miles. But the one box held on forever. Man, I've replaced the computer on that thing. The wiring harnesses, but the one box it was forever. Lol.
I lost my injectors at about 900000 miles. It wasn't all at once, but I changed them all at once. I didn't wait to lose another one.As soon as I lost one I just changed them all. Lost the fuel pump at about 1.1 mil so in short the entire engine did great up, until about one million miles. And then everything hooked to the engine started to fall a ####. Turbo actually lasted as long as the engine did, I didn't replace it because it was bad.I replaced it because I i was rebuilding the engine and figured it was worth it. I did do overheads every two hundred and fifty thousand miles. I don't feel like I did anything special. I just stayed up on my maintenance. Didn't ignore sounds.cascadia4life Thanks this. -
What did you think made you drop a valve if your top end sets were done? Just wear and tear on the head itself? Did you start seeing the valves getting increasingly out of adjustment? So curious to know if did a relative compression test at any point if that was the case or you didn't even had that opportunity.
fully agree. I use full synthetic as well. Valvoline premium blue 10w30 gen 2. Expensive af but it's 93K222 approved... And the oil samples look amazing on all markers, especially soot and Viscosity. Can show you if you want.
That's the point that I am at! Haha replaced on the def system so far:
-def pump, def doser (2x), nox sensors (several times) 1 def line. DPF filters are oem still... Ash count 45% according to DDDL... I assume yours isn't one of those older gen cascadias, EPA10? Heard the oneboxes failed fairly often when they came out but was corrected after ghg14+.... And I don't really like how some parts of the wiring harness go over the box.... Stupid design or maybe so it fails earlier? Hmm
Where there warning signs for your injectors failing? Weird clapping noises? Misfiring? Fuel in oil or coolant? And what about the pump? Seen some videos from TAT express YouTube channel about failing fuel pumps but the symptoms are hard to spot/hear... And the metal shards on the fuel filters you only spot them at the oil/filter change.... I'd say?
Crazy your turbo lasted that long.... The thought of it failing and sending metal shards all through The intake system... Horrifying...
Really appreciate the conversation so far. I'm a major fan of Detroit engines. Series 60, 8V92, DD13/15!!!Last edited: May 18, 2025

Yes mine. Is Ghg14. My compression test came back great evertime I ran one but I did notice my last over head it was very tight actually had to go over twice. I think the springs were just getting worn. But there wasn't really any signs. I still had his torque fuel mileage was still around 6 5 mpg. But ran that truck hard still do. I think it finally had enough. When I rebuilt it went on brand new head I didn't go cheap and thank fully it was a good rebuilt I hear horror stories about people rebuilding these dd15 month later bearing spun.cascadia4life Thanks this.

I did replace the wastegate but the Turbo itself never gave me any problems. I checked it quite often, and it did really well.
cascadia4life Thanks this. -
Do you do a lot of rpm? Say 1800rpm or similar? I know that the Jake brakes on the automatics kick and go till 2100rpm give or take.... Mine is a manual.. Few times I drove an automatic fleet truck I thought I Was going to grenade that thing
10-4 on the head thing. I do hear a lot of stories like you said and it's just crazy.. . Makes you wonder. -
I general run my rims around 1450 and generally not fast 70 mph. I put governors on my other trucks.cascadia4life Thanks this.
