Anyone got tips of cleaning out a air line that has a blockage in it? I left the glad hands open and some bug or animal got in there and clogged up the service airline to my 20 ton trailer. I've tried blowing it out but it's that smaller plastic line and it runs from the nose of the trailer to the air tank for like 18 feet. Ill probably have to replace it but it will be a pain in the ###.

If you can, get new line, splice old and new line together with a fitting, grind the fitting down as small as possible. Pull new line in as you pull the old line out.
Kyle G. Thanks this. -
Flex the line the length of it if possible, it'll break the dried material up and then you can blow it out.
I do the same thing with ice in air linesLast edited: May 26, 2025

Try some trimmer line, they sell it in several different sizes/diameters. If you are having problems getting past a certain point try the end in a drill to rotate it. May take a second person to push on it while it rotates.blairandgretchen and BoxCarKidd Thank this.

Disconnect the line at the nearest point upstream from the clog and blowout with a rubber tipped air gun and 150+ psi from a compressor. You instead could maybe also turn up the air governor's pressure on the truck.

I f you can, connect a short hose to your glad hand and flex it 90 degrees. Fill hose with air brake line antifreeze. Let gravity draw the liquid down the airline.
Let the liquid set for a bit. This might dissolve the blockage.
Nest step.
Disconnect the air line down stream to the first junction. Apply air pressure from where you took air line apart and force it toward the glad hand.
It would be better to push blockage out the glad hand then further in the air system.blairandgretchen and BoxCarKidd Thank this. -
pull the line off the tank blow it forward

After you get them cleaned out. Get a pair of glad hands new or used with good washers and two lengths of 1/2 npt steel plumbing pipe 4”-6” long. Cap off one end and install glad hand on the other. When you leave the trailer parked put them on the hands in place of the tractor ones. This will keep them sealed from moisture and critters. Along with them dirt daubers, Fire ants have been known in these parts to get in there. That is a difficult dilemma. They take dirt deep in.
little cat 500 Thanks this.
