I want you know that I'm not painting every old timer with the same brush because there are some that can and have evolved. You just have unwilling participants at times.

 

No, they are a bad company because they make promises, get people to upend their lives, stop looking for a job, run around the country, and then they they pull the bait and switch to leverage the disadvantageous position they have convinced someone to put themselves in with their lies.
if you think that's okay, then you're the kind of person that thinks treating people like that is okay.
What if you sign a rate confirmation with a broker for $3.00/mile, pull 45k across the country for them and when you get to the receiver the broker says "well, we're only going to pay you 0.25/mile and you can take that or haul our load back to origin undamaged or we will sue you". Is that okay ? Or would you say that is "bad" ?
CRST made an offer, got acceptance, a contract was formed (whether or not it is worth pursuing in court, the contract was formed), CRST broke said contract and accepts no responsibility for the damages they caused, instead they behave punitively as if somehow they are the victim. Does that sound like a "good" carrier to you ?

The OP was kinda thin on the details, but it's difficult for me to imagine someone getting kicked to the curb because he couldn't master an ELD in 2 days. Heck, I can't even tell you how to do a split sleeper.......mostly because Schneider didn't allow it, but the point is, I seriously doubt that a dude got run off because he couldn't grasp the concept of 10/11/14/30/34. These are not difficult concepts.

 

Sounds like you handled it the best you could. Was it a dollar store account? Those are probably the worst jobs in the industry in my mind.
