Yes, they are selling it to upgrade the fleet to automatics since they can’t find drivers that’ll drive manuals.. I know the company they are local to me.

I intended that to apply to both old and new. There's always something they know that you don't. So if it looks like the newer emissions motors aren't the money sink sale it might be th better option.

Buying anything is a risk, a 25 year old truck or a 3 year old truck. I don’t really know much about the newer ones. My old company had some Mack’s 2015-2020 most in the 350-550k plus range and most were pretty trouble free minus some Knox sensors. But I was just a driver, I didn’t own them. This peterbilt I’m looking at is in really good shape, has the specs I’m looking for. I just am not familiar with the emissions systems, I’d like to get 200k out of it but it may go a week before it’s down or it goes 400k no real way to know, so it’s all a big gamble.

2 million miler is a 1989. I run hard seasonally, most I ever put on this one was 87,000 in 1 year. A friend of mine has a 1985 with 4.7 million on it, he bought it in 1990 with several hundred thousand on it, ran the rest up himself. I know old iron can break a fellow, know it first hand! But if you can turn a wrench, and stay up late sometimes, and are willing to learn how to fix it yourself, it works well.

Big difference between the pre emission motors and emission motors. No way an emission motor is going that far. The emission components will kill it long before that, unfortunately. The def and dpf systems just aren’t made to last.

I know very well there is a difference, I have had mechanical engines, and full, choked up emissions, even have had several with def. Around some people, the system don’t last. Then, the engine does. I know of several engines off the top of my head that have emissions crap on em, and hit a million plus. Like I have mentioned before, YOUR MAINTENANCE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR. Or the lack thereof. Personally, I hate DEF, and if it makes an issue, it is promptly removed

Fascinating, Captain, I believe we've turned a corner,:crybaby:, bye bye manuals, heck, I bet someday you won't be able to GIVE a manual transmission truck away. I visit a classic car sales site, and most all the classics that are manual aren't sold. The retro styles themselves are attractive today, but the stick kills the deal everytime. Automatics are here to stay,,:cwm10:

Update; I have decided to increase my budget any lots of other trucks are now options.
    2016 western star 4900 600hp dd16(I think)
    400k miles
    2020 peterbilt 567 510 paccar
    240k miles

The peterbilt is a bit over my budget but has the lowest miles and all the specs I’m looking for.

    Still weighing my options
