I'm sure one of the custom harvest crews would hire him. Maybe even help him get the CDL

If OK, do then another season. Same outfit might could use in other work between. (Maintenance/repair) More good experience..
And those people running those outfits twirl a wide loop in referring you elsewhere. Crawl, walk, trot, run coast to coast....In 5 years....Chinatown and TexasRiverRat Thank this. -
Tell him NO. In no uncertain terms. Vocational training is where it’s at. Make more money and have a better life. Electrician is an example a better choice than trucking.

If he starts now he can have his state Electrictian or plumbing license before he will be 23 and able to drive for most trucking companies
and licensed electricians make way more money than truckers and are home every night
two of the wealthiest people in my neighborhood are state licensed plumbers . -
Some people don't want to be home every day.
Most truckers don't want to be home every day and that's one reason they're truckers.
Some truckers do want to be home every day. Some of us are happily married and don't want to be home every day and if we were forced to be home every day, that might lead to suicidal thoughts from sheer boredom and routine that never changes. -

The advice on going into trades would be pretty wise for starting a solid career at his age. Checking with your local union hall for apprenticeships. HVAC, Plumber, Electrician, Mason, etc.

Yall are down the street from the Dillon's warehouse. It wouldn't be a bad idea for him to work there and learn that part of the industry. Maybe he can get his CDL there while he's working the warehouse and then drive local delivering to the stores in the area. It won't be a fast process, but if he van prove to be a worker, with a willingness to learn the industry, he can get his foot in the door, and drive for Dillon's(Kroger). Perhaps he could even drive for Firstfleet down the line since they do so much for Kroger. I only bring this up because I believe I saw a big company, maybe Walmart, training warehouse employees to get their license and work for them.
Also, if your son is willing to expand his horizons, there are a number of companies that joined the program that will help 18 year olds to get their license and put them to work. The program was created under the last regime, and there's a company in Ohio that signed up for it, and I can't remember the name of the company. I do this every time this topic comes up. I posted about this some time ago, and I can't remember which thread. It's worth a Google search because that may be a better place to put the money if you can find it.Chinatown Thanks this.
