Just never ends. Who TF thought plastic bushings were a good idea? Upgraded to the greasable brass bushings. On to the other side today and then I guess I'll repack the bearings and put some lipstick and mascara on the frame.![]()

I need to build one for the driveway too but not sure I'll do that one in wrought iron, probably metal frame with wood planking and some wrought iron accents. It's nice to have a functional workshop. Glad I got the power out there upgraded to 240 volt last fall and can finally run a decent sized welder. Just have to plumb in my air compressor and mount the reel and I'm good to go.Friend, IH Truck Guy, cke and 11 others Thank this.

Knifemaking is something I'd like to try. The patterns some of those guys come up with are impressive.

I've got a similar sized forge off Amazon as well. Did you coat the kaowool in refractory cement? I bought some rated at 3,500F and coated the inside of mine. Supposedly it helps keep the heat in and keeps the fine pieces of kaowool from breaking off and getting breathed in while you're using it. I also took out the 3rd burner on mine, just a waste of propane since most of the stuff I've done has been shorter.
That twisting rig is cool, never would have thought of something like that. Cold twisting probably produces a more consistent result since you don't have the variable of heat factoring into it.Last edited: Jul 1, 2025

That's how I used to run my gig. Even when I was with dsv. It was get my #### loaded in 2 hours or less or its $200 an hour for me to sit here. I don't remember sitting and waiting very often... somehow that's a foreign concept at this company. Why they will sit their trucks for free is beyond my intellect. But they are still in business and I'm out of business so I guess I'm the one that's wrong.

Ever seen the plastic / nylon style king pin bushings…? -
I need to replace mine ... Where did you get the Brass Bushings ???
-
I got them from the local auto part store. They had them in stock at their distributor in the city. Ordered yesterday AM, picked them up on the way home last night. Price wasn't bad, 14 bolts, nuts, bushings and 4 seals and 4 dust caps was about $220.

They were a bit cheaper on Amazon but I didn't want to wait the 2+ week delivery time they quoted me. Would rather pay a bit more to get them right away and support someone local.Friend, IH Truck Guy, cke and 7 others Thank this.

Couple dad made from an old sawmill blade, nothing exotic but made of nice steel. He made on shaped like a woman’s high heeled slipper, he named it the Appalachian Lady…
IH Truck Guy, cke, Gatordude and 18 others Thank this.
