It definitely would be a good back up. I'm thinking of buying one of these , it's not a Benchmade, but it's not priced like one. They're place is in Winder, Georgia not far from me. Several places around here sell them. 150.00 knife.
I don't think they are made in USA . I've seen them on display but haven't asked to handle one yet

 

I looked up a couple of their other knives, and those are made in China.

Say, on the STC engine. As others said, check the timing of assy. drive to the cam. We used to run a box of the cummins injector flush thru the injectors, using shop lines thru suction line and return back to the box of flush. The only engines you use tappet tool is the L10 and M11 with stc injectors. Number 1 injector on the 855 stc always runs cold, air locks the oil because last in line for supply. Another thing you can check is if stc valve is shifting by capping off fuel line from pump to valve and using air regulator to trick valve to shift while at idle. Valve should shift at 60-80 psi. Check fuel tanks for fuel being black, If black, diaphragm is bad in stc valve and needs rebuild. There is 3 torques for 855 stc engines, 90 inlbs. 110 inlbs. And 125 inlbs as said. Depends on cpl. I can look for trq, but not until Friday

 

China is a no go for me. I knew they were not made here but I hadn't researched it.

 

It's getting a little thin from sharpening, but I've carried this knife everyday for almost twenty years. If it was good enough for my PaPa it's good enough for me.

It's not my only knife obviously, but it's the only one that I always have on me and won't leave the house without. I've skinned deer and filleted fish with it numerous times.

I also use it in restaurants even though it frustrates my wife.

It was a cheap knife in the 70's when it was made, but back then even cheap knives were still made in America.

 

Was hauling heifers from Grantsville to Wahsatch today. Coming up with the second round I saw one of the other guys that lives here in Evanston headed past the Echo port of entry. Quick call to the rancher and he says "oh I guess I forgot to tell you we're doing three rounds today"

Glad I called him or I would have went home after the second load

 

Tore the next one down today. Two seperate cylinders had fire rings blown completely out. One of them #5 appears to have a broke flange and damage to the spacer plate. 6 just had lots going on to be honest. And number 4 well it is cooked too. Being honest 1-3 wasn’t holding up too well. I’m gonna step out on a limb and say I’ll have to cut that number 5 really deep to get the cracks out and put a sleeve in there probably 1/4 to 3/8 thick. Course it’s gonna need a lower to. Guy brought it wanting in frame but just ain’t no way I can see to do that and it hold. Naturally I ain’t seen the liners out yet but I know what I’m gonna find. I hate building one needs this much machine work. Idk just so much more to go wrong etc. it would have be the end all be all 6NZ so a core is not feasible either. How do you tell a guy he’s looking at 30k if he’s lucky?

 

Personally I have never seen one that bad. Nor would I spend the money to rebuild that one.
