I just received a call from a CR. England recruiter. She wants me to start the refresher course on May 17. . in Indiana. I got my CDL. back in July of 2009 from a technical college in Eue Claire,WI. I have my hazmat, tanker, and doubles/triples endorsements. The only problem I have is that I read a lot of bad things about the company but it seems as if all my options are running out. I talked with Schneider back when I graduated, but at that time they weren't hiring recent graduates and told me to call back in six months but when I did they changed the rules and said that I would have had to graduated from school in three months. So know I was over the three month limit but less then six months, so that option got shot down. I then talked to Swift and they said get back to them in a couple of months. It will be a year in July since I received my CDL. and most companies require you to have graduated within a year and some even less. I am on unemployment so my training was paid for by the tax payers and not about to waste their money. So even if Cr. England is a bad company I still need to start somewhere. I am also single with no children, so I don't have to worry about small paychecks. So any advice would be appreciated. I just need to get started somewhere. Thank you.

Please look real close at the bottom line above the England crest...it says "guaranteed job for those that qualify"...now are they going to collect the $100 before you are "qualified" to drive for them, or are there stipulations on becoming a lease operator for them, or are they going to tell you if you are "qualified" before you fork over the bucks?

You must get these answers (preferably in writing) before you can make a good decision! And where is the training...close to you or will you have to take the bus to SLC only to find out you don't qualify, and have to pay your own way home!

Thanks for the reply Booniehat. I have also received the the same ad on my email. I have to admit saving almost 1400 dollars would really help. By the way do you drive for Cr. england? and if you do are you a company driver or a lease operater. I know I don't plan on signing a lease in the near future, not in this economy. I just want to start somewhere to get the experience, that comes first. Me signing a lease agreement now would be like a person getting hired on at a restaurant as a dishwasher and then in a couple of weeks wanting to buy the restuarant thinking they know everthing there to running the place.

I will be leaving on June 6, for Burn Haven, Indiana. I will then start my refresher course training. I am fortunate enough to have had all my training paid for, my original eight week course at a technical college where I got my CDL., and for the refresher course at CRE. I know that will take away a lot of stress so I can concentrate on driving. I will also be bringing about three hundred dollars for food, I hope that will be enough. If anyone has any advice please feel free to share, but please no negative comments, I would just like to take advantage of this opportunity, especially after being unemployed for over a year.

You just wanna hear what'cha wanna hear and disregard the rest?
It's easier to ignore the disproportionate number of negative comments about C.R. England so you can concentrate on the smaller percentage of positive comments?

If you're betwixt a rock and a hard place, will adding weight to the rock on top help?

    Best advice?
Whatever form of transportation you decide to take to Burn Haven, Indiana, --- spring for the round-trip ticket just in case those with negative comments you don't want to hear are correct.

Now, I realize that advice may come across as negative, but it's not intended to be. When I gave another gung-ho poster headed from New York to Salt Lick, Utah the same advice, he got angry and accused me of having a bad attitude. He was sure that his positive attitude would be enough to get him through the trials and tribulations.

He lasted about 4 days in Salt Lick before CRE unceremoniously kicked him to the curb --- rejected.
That poster did have the decency to come back here and report what happened, and mentioned how he did take my advice about the round-trip ticket, was glad he did, and thanked me. He also apologized for a few names he called me for being negative when all he wanted to hear was positive.
Only the positive? That's like making a big decision based on only half the information, --- and the smaller half at that.
How wise does that sound to you?
'Cause from where I'm typin', it sounds like a mistake lookin' for a place to happen.

    Do us a favor though?
Whatever happens, please let us all know, one way or the other.
Personally, I hope you succeed where ever you decide to go. Nothing would please me more than to read your glowing report after six-months to a year with CRE. We don't get many of those.
    If any.
Usually, after orientation, they just seem to fall off the edge of the earth and disappear, never to be heard from again.
    Did they succeed?
If so, you'd think they'd wanna tell us we're wrong about CRE.
But not too anxious to tell us we were correct.
    Ya reckon.

    Good luck, WI. :salute:
