One of the reasons trucks catch fire during regens is the cracked exhaust pipes. Way too common and the dealers know it hence the cost of replacement. On a truck without that b.s. you Should be able to replace the whole system for $500.

Here’s the update. I’m at the company I’m leased on to repair shop. Thank God I called them. I almost got the wrong part even though I gave the dealer the vin#. They are doing the installation now. See photo. I will update this post with cost and time it took. Also this part needs gaskets and clamps.

Good that you got the right part from the dealer for that. It's not something you'd want to hodgepodge together with "one fits all" universal flex from whatever parts place. That would cause more problems sooner than later.

Well I definitely wouldn’t have been able to do the repair myself with the tools I have. It took the mechanic a little over 2 hours. He has to use socket extensions and all. I haven’t received the bill yet but my guess is over $1k.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Invest in a Milwaukee M18 1/2" cordless impact and you could knock that job out easy. Cordless grinder/cutoff is handy too.

I might add my experience is with CAT motors so my rambling above is not much help to you.

This part on a 2011 prostar cost me over $900 part only. I was able to install myself with removing fender liner and side skirt and working under the truck. Not the worst job and thankfully the oem part is aligned so it matched up with the original no problem.

I’ll guess you’ll pay $800 total. 3 hrs Labor. Good to know a Mechanic you can trust. If he gives you a deal, I suggest a $50 tip. He probably saved you 3 x that amount. I would check motor mounts, make sure there’s not a mechanical reason it broke.
