with some ltl companies, a linehaul driver may pull doubles one day a a long trailer the next. The local peddle drivers get the multi stops. More or less.nextgentrucker Thanks this.

Central in my region pulls a lot of 53’s but some regions they pull doubles and triples. Dock work can be yard dogs. But I mean on the dock with a forklift. For instance I worked at Saia. Dock guys made $26-$30 an hour with plenty of OT. They drove a forklift loading trailers. Hardly any physical lifting. Saia trained dock workers to become CDL drivers and eventually become City local or Linehaul drivers. Which you have your CdL they can train you on how to drive with a trainer if need be. $26-$30hr pays a lot more then a lot of companies pay new CDL drivers. Definitely more than OTR mega fleets. I know people have this pride thing of being a driver vs dock worker but if I had to do it over again I would have took a dock worker position at a LTL company and became a driver. Companies I’m referring for example is Estes, Saia, FedEx freight, R&L carriers, ABF, Old Dominion, XPO in no particular order.Speedy356, nextgentrucker, jaws2003 and 1 other person Thank this.

So what you mean is, they fired you because this "trainer" or both of them actually can't do their job worth a ####? That is some nonsense. It's literally their job to teach you to do load securement.nextgentrucker, jaws2003 and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this.

I can totally see that. I have no issues with it. Lol.nextgentrucker and Lonwolv54 Thank this.

Thanks for letting me know about this!! I like XPO as there's a terminal in my local town but it's hard to get on as the positions don't stay empty for long. I got a response back from Central Transport and they decided to hire me. I will be starting on Monday as a local driver. I know the terminal manager was saying that they usually work 10 to 10.5 hour days but I know that can change. I know if I'm doing 12-14 hour days that will pay what I want even more!! I know they will train me on the forklift as well since I don't have a forklift license.nextgentrucker, Radman, bryan21384 and 1 other person Thank this.

I wanted a career change. A lot of people in my family are truck drivers. Even my dad. He did it until the age of 68. The only reason he stopped was because he had prostate cancer and that took him out.TripleSix, nextgentrucker, mitrucker and 1 other person Thank this.

I see Central drivers out here on I-20 going west of Fort Worth,TX, morning, noon and night LOL.. I stop after work at the QT in Weatherford, TX a lot and I almost always see a Central truck, they seem to be happy enough..best of wishes to you, brother, keep us posted..

I agree but that second trainer was quite anal to say the least. He would just be a straight butthole about things. Just telling me "you're not gonna make much money because of your speed, talked down on my age(I'm 40 and he's 28) and he felt that me training with a local driver did not prepare me for the road and he was always saying "you're behind schedule and we have a lot to make up." The first trainer it was NOTHING like him. He was very relaxed and easygoing.nextgentrucker Thanks this.
