Fired from Cypress Truck Lines and now not many companies will touch me

You're in Jacksonville? I'm in Port Saint Lucie, I know there's a FedEx there but I bet it's hard to get into, I don't what else is there.

 

Do you recall specifically what he said about your age? This trainer, he was an employee of Cypress Truck Lines, correct, not an independent contractor? Definitely sounds like being a trainer is not his strong point. I have had to train a few new drivers when I worked for a local heavy haul company. I don't recall ever saying such things to someone I was training and the ones I did train were older than I was as well. I was more interested in making sure that they grasped the concept of loading and unloading the equipment safely without damaging it or hurting themselves, and of course securing the load properly.

 

I had a 2750 miles a week bid and could opt to do an extra run which could be 3250 miles a week. I never did the extra run cause I liked my weekends. Plus there’s drop and hook doubles pay with delay time. On top of mileage I made an extra $150-$200 a week on hourly pay also. So about 120k+ a year. M-F, home every night, got lucky on getting a day bid, weekends off. Plus no work on holidays. 3 day weekends paid. Now it took 4 years to get there working for the company didn’t walk in and get it off the bat of course.

 

FedEx is not hard to get into if you have 12 mos experience. Some even with 6 mos experience. Those jobs are pulling doubles and some are teams and most are contractor trucks.
Here's one that's a FedEx contractor job hauling FedEx freight out of Orlando. Some, not all, openings will hire new cdl school grads.

@jaws2003 i fully believe you were the result of an immature trainer that had no business being called such, why didn’t he take more time with you, you were in training? I may be wrong, but I believe that why lies solely in a power tripping 28 year old who has been handed responsibility from cypress that he’s not quite capable of yet, testament to you for not letting him detour you in your journey forward, stay safe
