I was told that FedEx National LtL in Orlando FL will not be using contractors after 31 December, 2010...
So typical of FedEx, they screwed O/O's when they took over for Watkins Motor Lines only to turn around later down the track and get more O/O's and now they are going to get rid of them (at least here in FL)...
Watkins Motor Lines was a pretty awesome company, it is such a shame that they sold to FedEx....

I don't think because a company stops using O/O's necessarily makes them a bad company. Maybe they could keep the O/O's they have, and as they leave just not replace them until they're completely rid of them.

They didn't really screw them over..Numerous court decisions have found that Fed-Ex misclassified their contractors. While they were treated by Fed-Ex as employees, Fed-Ex denied them any of their usual employee benefits, stating that they were really "contractors"..The courts have seen through this charade and told Fed-Ex to either make them "real" employees or to disband it's Ground and Contractor Divisions. Fed-Ex chose to disband...FedEx was just trying to do an "end run" around things like work comp. claims, insurance etc. and they got caught..
ambivalence and walleye Thank this. -
if it's true they're disbanding their ground and contractor divisions, i say good riddance! the roadways will be safer without those clowns constantly wrecking their equipment, causing closures, and headaches for countless people.

I am talking about FedEx National LtL - this company used to be called Watkins Motor Lines and they had terminals in all 48 states - they sold to FedEx (I believe the court cases had nothing to do with National) and the name changed to FedEx National LtL- it is allied with FedEx Freight. The Name on both National & Freight trailers is Purple & Red.

FedEx Ground is a completely different division and is all O/O's and there is no way they are getting rid of them. The name on these trailers is Purple & Green. I think the court cases were to do with Ground.
difference-maker Thanks this. -
I was a contractor for Watkins and FXN and I can tell you that Watkins was one of the best run companies I have ever worked for, they took care of the workforce and the customers,I left there shortly after FX took over they have absolutly no regard for the employee it's a good paying job but , the rules change daily and no real job security

I totally agree with you, I worked for a contractor when it was Watkins and FXN and Watkins was the best company I ever worked for. Left when things started to change as well..Its a #### shame.
Look what they are doing, getting rid if the contractors yet again, whats the bet that they will be looking for contractors 6 mths later like last time..!! Lets hope they give these contractors a bit more notice than last time - told on Friday that as of Monday you are no longer contracted to us. -
Fed Ex will not be dis banding the ground unit any time soon. But what I find odd is that a person with 3 years experinence has the audacity to call any other driver unsafe and a clown. How would you know?Sacred Feline Thanks this.
