So all of a sudden, my wipers stopped working. Luckily, I noticed it during pre-trip. I checked the fuse first, and sure enough, it was blown. So I put in another fuse and it blew immediately. The fuse was a 25 amp, so I then put in a 35 amp to see if that would solve the problem. The moment I touched the terminals in the slot, the fuse blew pretty violently! Half of the prong on the fuse was melted!
So I went under the hood and disconnected the plug from the wiper motor. I then put in a new fuse and started the truck. This time, the fuse didn't blow. So do I have a bad motor?
Thanks for any help.

Yes, known Volvo problem. Replace wiper motor.
Often they stop working mid-stroke. They kind of freeze for a second, then start again. Mine has done this a few times and fixed itself.
I don't trust it anymore but I'm lazy. Just replace the motor. -
Mine went out last week. 2022 Volvo. It was raining.. wipers going, then like Scotty said, it stopped mid stroke. They were sticking straight up.
Replaced the motor and all is good. Shop told me its a common problem... Just like Scotty said.
The little shop we use keeps them in stock. -
Just curious...how does a bad motor blow the fuse? If the motor doesn't work, how does it affect the fuse?
-
Bad motor does not necessarily mean a dead motor. Bad meaning something wrong in it electrically or otherwise that causes enough increase in the amperage that exceeds the fuse limit. When that happens the fuse blows.
What the others describe sounds different from your problem though. They describe the motor freezing momentarily or stop working but they don't mention anything about a blown fuse. -
True, I just know the motors go bad and it usually starts with freezing. I can't really speak to the fuse issue. I'd test ground and voltage at the plug from wiring harness to wiper motor before I plugged a new motor into it.

Had one go out on this truck. Bad motors are an issue with the newer models and was a recall. Not sure you have the same issue, might be a wire that is grounding out. Check all wiring and if nothing I would just replace the motor as that most likely is the problem.
