Hey gentlemen and ladies, needing advice/feedback
my 06 gmc sierra 2500 with the 6.0 that has about 265k miles on it gave up the ghost, figured it blew a head gasket in the AZ heat. Ain’t tore it down yet, but gonna pull the motor and see
Now, should I just buy a rebuild kit or take it to a machine shop to have it honed and the heads machined as well? Not looking to spend a lot of $$$, but wanna rebuild it and make it more bulletproof. If anyone has owned one of these power plants, they know that they will go pretty much forever. But unfortunately as you get up in miles, s h i t happens
I’ve had this truck since 09 and bought it for 11k, only had 40k miles when I got it. There is no way in hell I can buy a 3 yr old truck today for 11k, so most definitely wanna keep this
any advice is greatly appreciated
look forward to seeing what y’all think

I hadn't been over it since sometime in the 80s, and that was in a little sports car.
No butcher bill, but lesson learned!Sons Hero, cke, singlescrewshaker and 8 others Thank this. -
Glad you made it through. Thanks for the heads up. I have looked at that road before, but noticed the length limit. IIRC, there's a sign on 84 mentioning it? Maybe it's a different road.
Length limits in general I have found way off. Lots of roads across the country with none that should have them. Places here in AR and WV come to mind, but out west they're usually pretty tame.
I haven't done it in ID because I respect the DOT, though y'alls frost laws could have gotten me in trouble a time or two.
Speaking of roads to not take. Grants Pass to Crescent City on 199. Yeah, I effed up there when I first started. You're a good 3 miles into a no turning back situation when you pass that 35' trailer length limit sign.
And 434 between Angel Fire and Mora NM. Yeah, don't ever take that roadLast edited: Aug 1, 2025

Me personally i would keep it. Seems like 06 and 07 was the last good years of pickup trucks. Atleast my favorite era.
