I was less than 10 miles from stopping last night when I heard it fall off. I guess the bushings wore out. I took note of the mile marker, took the next exit and turned around, went up the other side of the interstate and back to retrieve it.
It was pitch black out and I couldn't see it. Walked up and down the road looking for it to no avail. I believe it was probably blown to pieces being run over by another truck. I filed a damage claim to the company already but the only DOT information I can find about missing steps refers to cabovers.
Step fairing blew off my truck

As long as you don't have any loose remnants that could fly off the truck you should be ok as far as DOT goes as that's not considered required equipment. Hopefully the company gets you fixed up though. Tough break, but at least it didn't cause an accident or anything.

Nothing loose. Just an inconvenient climb up and down. Currently being passed around different departments trying to get it figured out.

Yeah mine was coming loose and I nearly fell the first time. Finally got it fixed at a company shop before it fell off. #### volvos.

Some DOT officer might want to put you OOS just for the fact they have no way to climb up and hassle you.

Just make sure you choose the left lane at scales

Well now I'm sitting at the terminal to get it replaced.
Body shop isn't open until Monday. The claims department keeps saying I'm fine to roll but the mechanics keep saying it's a violation and to sit tight until the fairing comes in.hope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
It is a violation, don't move the truck from the shop.TripleSix, hope not dumb twucker and Kid Cricket Thank this.

Would you mind giving me the FMCSR for that? The only information I can find seems to specify cabovers.
