Retired, question.

I hate that when they say oh we have the time to listen lol, the first thing that screwed up my retirement was a divorce and paying child support for 3 kids for about 17 years, was able to put money away for about the last 5 years or so, to little to late. What screwed up my savings was car repairs and my deductible for the 4 surgeries I had, nothing major but had 6 months or so of therapy. Then the last year or so my oldest daughter had stage 4 Cervical cancer and helped her with that, she beat the cancer and is cancer free but had surgery to put a collection bag in her because her bladder was ruined, so I helped her with all that and now she is on the road to recovery, had to spend a lot of money on her, not going to get into a lot of details about that. Now as far as buying a $70,000 pickup that's not going to happen unless I win a lottery. I'm pretty frugal with spending, learned to do that when paying child support. Depending what happens the next 2-3 years if everything turned out okay, I would maybe buy a newer suv. So there ya have it, that's why I have to do some truckin' again.

 

For the most part yes if you work. In some states if I understand correctly Social security is taxed, I might be wrong with that. In my state if I don't work my SS is not taxed. If I do work depending on how much I make, my SS can be taxed at 30% or up to 80% but then you figure in the standard deduction and that helps with how much your SS will be taxed. Welcome to the real world of retirement.

 

I believe you are correct with this if you haven't reached full retirement age. Once you reach full retirement age this doesn't apply, then you just will be taxed at the 30% or up to 80% depending on your amount of working wages, I hope I'm right with this.

 

I agree, I'm hoping to make it for a couple of years, I realize that I had to make a commitment and get ready financially so I can make it comfortable in my late 70's and beyond. Just got a call from a Peterbilt dealership that I applied for to work part time on call delivering trucks, the money won't be there compared to full time OTR but it's a start if I get the job. I was kidding about the nosey part, I'd like to know about a situation and see if I could help also it's all good.
