Former Driver – Disappointed by False Promises and Poor Treatment

I joined GP Transco hoping for a good experience, but I left disappointed and frustrated. Here’s what I wish I’d known:

    • The advertised $1,200/week guarantee is misleading. I had weeks where I made half that and was told I didn’t qualify, with no clear explanation.
    • Driver assist pay was promised but never showed up on my paychecks.
    • Mileage is calculated based on what the broker estimates, not what you actually drive. This leads to consistent underpayment.
    • Despite constant warnings about fuel usage, I was left without a load in extreme heat over weekends and forced to idle the truck for safety — then criticized for idling.
    • When my truck broke down, I was placed in unsafe, unsanitary motels with bug infestations and visible drug activity.

Ultimately, this company prioritizes cutting costs over driver well-being. I don’t recommend them to anyone who values transparency, fair pay, or professional treatment.

How long did you work there? I thought they had a decent amount if drop and hook.

You’d think with all the advertising that they did in recent years (on websites and social media) that things would be good.

Thanks for the heads up. I looked at them years ago , but never did pull the trigger. They had a lot of pompous marketing and fake YouTube recruiting videos, making the drivers come in and give testimonials, that kind of crap. There's a reason companies have to do that sort of thing. Good companies just exist without all the pompous theatre.

They got particularly bad after COVID. They opened the new terminal and then locked all office/operations employees behind glass doors and windows so you couldn’t speak with anyone other than the two “employee representatives” that generally seemed overburdened and not interested in helping. That left the drivers and maintenance department as the only people on the outside looking in.

That led to a line of drivers at the service writers desk dumping all of tbeir issues on the maintenance staff because they were the only people that we could even speak with. That made the maintenance staff angry and confrontational that they had to field so many questions that had nothing to do with maintenance.

Another thing of note is you better enjoy driving the upper Midwest all winter long. They love running northern Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and the Dakotas all winter. My first year there my fuel filter froze twice on my Volvo, one time near Albert Lea, MN in sub zero weather and the second time outside of Fargo with an air temperature of -40 and a wind chill of -70 or worse.

Also, another issue I had is they are obsessed with 34 hour restarts. They expect you to sit 34 hours every week in some of the most boring and annoying places. They get upset if you want to run recaps and the dispatchers (except for one good dispatcher that ran me on recaps because I wanted to) have no clue how to calculate your hours. They only know how to dispatch you knowing you have a full clock every day. Even the good dispatcher couldn’t calculate my hours, I’d have to calculate them and tell him 3-4 days out and he would write it down

This is the first time personally that I have heard anything bad about them here, unless of course I missed it.

They’re a quirky company. Mileage was never an issue. I lost count of the number of snow storms, ice storms and blizzards I drove through. It was almost like the dispatcher was looking at the weather map and aiming for them. I left there in Nov 2020 so I have no idea what the current situation is.

I always assumed it was super corporate Chicago Russians that ran the joint. May be good for some, but never piqued my interest.

Just another one to be avoided
