Having trouble finding information online…. Here’s the situation I have a super old Fruehauf end dump trailer, I think it is a late 60s or early 70s. Trailer has tapered axles with inboard hubs. I was told inboard hubs are obsolete so I couldn’t find replacements so I thought I would upgrade to outboard. But because it’s tapered I couldn’t do that either. Everyone is telling me to replace both axles, I’ve found replacement axles from a 1990 clement end dump trailer. As far as I know as long as they’re the same length they can be used. I’ve also read that spring perches can be bought and welded where I need them. I guess I’m worried that because of the age difference the axles won’t work? Since mine is a 70s trailer and the axels came off of a 90s trailer and it has a 20year difference? Will it work? Do you guys have any tips on what else I should look for when I go look at the axles
Axle length of old Fruehauf end dump trailer?

You can weld the perches anywhere and make them fit it’s not that big a job. Personally I would do that just cause I hate ####in inboard set ups.
But you can still get the parts pieces etc for them old set ups. Very few are obsolete, you just gotta do the leg work as in take what you need to Hale Trailer, Liberty trailer etc. you ain’t gonna find what you want on the net most likelyJbugBDT, Oxbow and BoxCarKidd Thank this. -
I do not like the ones in your picture. The brake spiders are welded on not bolted. When the area for the S cam bushing is worn out you have a new problem. Bearing race area condition? They are already over 20 years old and worked hard.
Hub faces are usually 71 1/2 for 96" overall width with tires or 77 1/2 for 102". Hub face can be measured at the center of the duals. Might have better luck finding used narrow axles from a tanker.
Last axle like that I bought from Great Dane was about $1300.00. Came with cams and shoes.JbugBDT Thanks this. -
Man I went to two local parts store, a bigger more known parts store fleet pride. Went to a few junk yards and because it is tapered at the ends no one has the parts I need.
I called conmet, propar, and a few others been on the hunt for about a month nowAttached Files:

Okay so I can use other trailer axles, I thought I could only use end dump trailer axles -
I called my Great Dane salesman. Said a 5" axle for a 96" wide trailer with 413 - 414 bearing sets, very common, would cost $995 on my commercial account.
He said the best thing for you to do was call GD in Indianapolis and go pick them up yourself. 47 of them in the Atlanta distribution center.
Maybe you could find some good used piloted hubs, drums, rims, lug nuts and save some money?
Still have no idea what suspension and axles you have?wore out Thanks this.
