Just do it man and dont worry about if it doesn't work out. There,s always another road so go forth with confidence.I haven't driven for decades myself but it sounds like a good offer. The only thing holding you back is yourself. Good luck.Phantom Trucker Thanks this.

You won't get hired, we're approaching a million class one drivers, who are un-employed across Canada; while the driving schools run 14 hours a day 7 days a week.
Let me be as clear and I can, Trucking in Canada is OVER, Canada itself is OVER, the only thing keeping the entire country going, is the insane housing bubble; and that is starting to collapse. IE I've been getting offers on my house daily for 2 years, including realtors leaving posit notes on my front door, or waiting for me to get home from work, to talk to me in person. All those offers have been around $500 000ish Canadian, no need to list, cash money tomorrow. Well in the last 3 months, those offers have stopped cold. I did have one guy I took the time to chat with in my garage, come back, and he offered me $400 000 now. I asked why the sudden drop, he said "Everything has stopped, everyone is broke". Which I can confirm, as some housing projects are starting to be cancelled in Calgary (I run dump truck and pup). The Liberals have also doubled the immigration targets, so what is already an out of control situation, just got premium gasoline dumped all over it.
So lemme be clear, there is NO POINT coming to Canada, NONE! If you need to get out of the UK, The US is the best option right now.upnorthwpg and AModelCat Thank this. -
Don't listen to these fools, there's plenty of money to be made, especially with how easy driving is in Canada. The pay is great considering the minimal skill and effort it takes just sitting in a climate controlled cab, doing #### all, looking at the phone just chillin lol. Im at 102k gross so far this year as a company driver. Plus the government gives you a fat tax return when OTR for meal expenses, I get about 12k a year return.

dont think it makes people fools man. Somebody’s view of Canada might differ from somebody else’s depending on any number of factors.
personally I’d hope you’re right in saying there was work for someone that can prove they aren’t a cowboy and would do the job without causing danger to anybody else through negligence or whatever. But as someone from the UK desperate to make the move, I value everybody’s input.
people say about the US but for me, you’d have to be utterly nuts to go there. I don’t even think it’s feasible, but the US is a cesspit, in my humble opinion -
Just the ones saying trucking is not worth it are thhe fools. Where else can you make $150k+ a year, with no education, performing a simple mindless job, just sitting there moving a steering wheel.
dunchues Thanks this. -
ahhh, fair enough man. Sorry I misunderstood what you said.
im doing 70 hour weeks and im scarcely at home but I make good money, for a driving job. Also I might be a sad act or whatever but I still get a smug feeling of accomplishment when I make it round a tight turn, or do an awkward/difficult back.
it’s got its downsides what job doesn’t, but I genuinely love the job 60% of the time. -
You have to be realistic. You’re coming over, zero experience. You’re only going to get hired on a Lima program, which imo is legalized slavery. You will be paid #### for working 70 hours a week, out 30 days a month. On top of that, you’re competing with thousands of other drivers here already willing to work for #### pay. Most of these companies are run by one certain demographic, and they mainly hire from within that demographic. Smaller companies are one wreck, or loosing one contact away from bankruptcy. Think long and hard about this.

you’re right man. I mean, I’ll have one year + experience, but I also realise that won’t count for much and is essentially a bare minimum.
I also hear your on the ‘certain demographic’ front. When I’ve researched trucking in Canada that’s a tale that sadly comes up a lot.
I’m not naive enough to assume I’ll come out, be able to master driving a 53’ trailer quickly and then be able to walk straight into a great job. I’ll have to pass the CDL test first which won’t be easy despite experience in Europe, then it’s the battle of finding a job and having the mental strength to outlast what will unless I have a miracle come my way, a #### job.
but it’s a dream, I’m absolutely sick of the UK and want a future elsewhere at just about any cost. One real upside to having done a bit of trucking over here to get experience is the finances. Going out and doing the MELT program is no longer a Canada or bust situation. Sure if I went out and it didn’t work out it’d sting, but it wouldn’t bankrupt me. I’d rather have tried and failed than to get to old age and regret having not tried.
as always, appreciate the input. -
Why not come for a visit and do some research before making the jump?
