Ridgeline knows what he's talking about, he owns a company with more than a few drivers and trucks. Been around the block at least twice.

I'm not saying anything to discredit his experience or accomplishments- I'm simply stating that I need the verification to qualify for a job that I want, which requires me to have my previous experience counted- and that I already listened to the great advice given here-

No I am tired of drivers getting ******* all the time with these cheap pos owners who are too lazy just to do the simple things.

It isn’t a problem for many fleets about your experience. Many times the ones with a few years are the worst ones but nevertheless, you prove yourself with a driving test and your knowledge/attitude on the job.

see you should understand that the insurance companies run the show and those I have look into the drivers background and if there is something wrong, they tell me.

One year or what you think is only 8 months, just apply no matter what they say.

most of the crap about one year is just … crap, they want to weed out the pos drivers.

My requirement is 5 year’s minimum but I have hired drivers with zero experience and they turned out good.

so just apply at the work you want to do, put down your actual experience and be honest about the situation.

You have proof provided by the DOT [as I mentioned above] and don't worry about the other driver.

This person's actions may contribute to a major accident due to the constant 'pushing' to do more.

Hours of service Is an important part of attempting to make the highways safer AND Ag. exempt -or- not; hiring employees with a CDL is a business with income reporting and taxation responsibilities far beyond hiring day workers on the farm.

This person used you and he will continue to 'use' every CDL holder UNTIL either he gets reported -or- someone dies....

Move on and then drop a dime; that 'nice guy' driver will thank you especially as it may save his life!

You are playing in the big leagues; don't let one bad apple spoil you.

Just be thankful you are NOT that statistic that puts this guy in Jail.....

Thank you for coming back and explaining deeper to me- even after I acted like a jerk to you... I apologize for that BTW..
I understand what you were saying now. And ya.. he was a "friend" of mine who got himself into a bind and begged me to come work for him- I promised him 1 year but I was only able to last 8 months. I kick myself for ever agreeing to help him- the $ was good and I learned alot about the grain business- the ins and outs- but in the end, my sanity and passion for my profession took a hit.
I truly learned a valuable lesson and I'm just grateful nothing worse happened out of it.

I'm going to read all of these posts again in the morning and really consider what I should do- you're right @wis bang it is dangerous how he does things and runs us- 18-20 hr days- 800-1000 mile days- day after day- minimal sleep- all so we can stack loads for more profit- he makes us drivers take all the risks, all the taxes, while he lays in bed eating honey buns- I really need to handle this with the facts and not my emotions...

Thank you again everyone- I'm always grateful for the recommendations you guys give me.

Bad owner? Probably. But at the end of the day it’s up to the driver to say when they’re tired, especially when you’re running under an hours of service exemption. Go after him for the tax stuff but the 20 hour days are on you because you didn’t park the truck.

If your intended carrier (that requires a year of experience) later shoots you down -- you could then try the following (who require only 6 months experience):
    • Marten Transport
    • Frey Miller
    • FFE
Out of those three....I'd say Marten Transport is first pick.

I would apply to the carrier of your choice. Put down the past driving jobs you've had. It would be up to the potential carrier to check on those jobs.

If they can't get hold of the flake, that's not on you. They might say that he won't respond, and then you have the opportunity to tell them why, and why you would be a good fit for their company.

@Ridgeline , you're a genius! Perhaps she (or her prospective employer) can contact the previous carrier's insurer to see when the fleet owner added her to their policy. And how long are carriers required to retain BOLs, DVIRs, and such? Maybe he still has some of those from her, or maybe FMCSA has records if they did an audit while she was employed.

I think a lot of drivers overthink this as a problem. Many carriers are lazy and want the driver want to do the work. The driver provides the information to the carrier and the carrier is supposed to do the work.

With the crap hiring practices we have in this industry, carriers are not willing to deal with something to fulfill the regulations.

If the old carrier doesn’t provide the info, then it is on them later on, the attempt is documented and the driver is hired if the mvr is clean and passes the testing (if used). Insurance companies review mvr and other records and will kick back the bad news if the driver is a crap driver.
