Same here, Never saw or heard of back then. Also concur with the tandem, different ratio, pending grenade points. If they had been practical, they would have scooped the 3 way Brown Lipes long ago.

Great plan. I'll try to hang on to hear about success.
The OD (high) being (back) was not uncommon at all in Mack back then. In Bryan Bros fleet of 4 or 5 F8 Fords, 1-L190IH,sleeper, and 1 A50 Mack sleeper, You drove whatever they had loaded, weighed, fueled and parked on the hill in front of the barn.
The Mack was 5 and a duplex. 5th was back, but marked on the dash sequence as OD. And noted to not run 5th with duplex in low side.
Course then a lot of Bryan's driver were just get bills from the night watchman, get in, crank and go. Not driver's, joist employed to drive trucks.
I know of twice the Mack's transmission was rebuilt by Mack in B'ham due to some ace splitting 5 OD against Lo in duplex

'69 GMC steel tilt cab. It's had a 549 IH gasser transplanted into it. 5 speed with 3 speed rears.

From what limited information I can find, these are the gearing arrangements for the axles.

Low range = Low & Low
Int range = High & Low (front & rear)
High range = High & High

The inter-axle differential compensated for the differing rear end speeds. Intermediate range created a lot of heat.

Thanks for the detail, makes it make sense. Accounts for running high in front and low in back. Could not see that meshing.

Thank You! I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. It was originally a road tractor, but was stretched to accommodate the 26' grain bed. It also has fold-down stock racks on the sides and a square treadplate floor, for hauling animals.
Leonard's in Rigby, Idaho built the bed. I have no idea if they did the stretch as well.

When I saw your truck with the bed raised it looked like something the Duke boys would have uaed to jump road construction running fom Roscoe P. Coltrane.

That is such a cool truck! Could you show us some pictures of the engine? I have never seen a 549 International engine in person. But I do remember my granddad and my dad talking about them and the 401 straight 6 when they had a fleet of Internationals hauling produced water in the oilfield in the 60's and 70's. Seems like they said they had 10 speed Road Rangers transmissions in them, had plenty of power and they later ran them on butane. I remember my granddad saying his truck drivers liked to have starved to death when they switched over to butane on the trucks. But then after a few weeks all the driver's personal vehicles were running on butane too! I guess them ole boys was helping themselves to a bit of company fuel.
