I believe the term is just "fries" so as not to discriminate agin the French. Chips is a more world wide recognized term, and we eat 4.5 BILLION pounds of fries in the US every year. A McDs large fries, if filled properly, is about 1/3 pound. I'd have to think it would be the salt more than anything. Fries without salt is like, well, you can figure it out. I love salt. As a kid, I remember going through a whole box of those "Mr. Salty" pretzels in an evening, and my mom was a nurse. I think it's all a bunch of hooey,,,

I don't think just eating potatoes is what's causing the increase in T2D. It's the size of the rear end of the person eating them! Regular potatoes, no matter if they are fried or baked, go straight to what is basically sugar. I wear a G-7 CGM and can see how my blood sugar goes up after eating an average-sized baked potato. Carbohydrates are the problem. Yes, the human body needs carbohydrates to function, but not make up a huge amount of a daily diet.

I think i read there a a bunch of additives, and depending on oil used, Mcd's throws in their fries. Most if not all fast food is not classified as food anymore, let alone healthy.

I have a plate with a lot of slots in it

    you
Slice up potatoes and stand the slices up in the slots and nuke it in the microwave and it makes pretty tasty potato chips that are not fried

    The_vett Thanks this.
