Looks like I didn’t properly post my reply. I am looking for dry van/reefer. Over the road or dedicated. If I had my choice, I would go west from Virginia, avoiding the coast, but I don’t know how likely that would be.

    MSWS Thanks this.

Werner is okay as a starter company. Their OTR was garbage when I started, way too many short hauls, but their dedicated side is supposed to be good. They put me with a trainer who was running a dedicated 3M account and it was a pretty sweet gig. If they had been hiring out my area for that one, I probably wouldn't have gone OTR. I think that account is only for team drivers now, but their website shows a dedicated Target account hiring out of Lynchburg with weekly hometime.

I talked to their recruiter yesterday. She said that all they have open right now is team driving. We are going to keep communications open, but I told her I would prefer not to be a team driver. She is going to be getting back to me if anything opens up. I also just received a few minutes ago a great email from the recruiter at at one of the companies I have been trying to get into, so I am riding pretty high right now!

Sounds about right. My advice is to be flexible, but don't bend so much that you break. Your first company will probably just be a starter company, regardless of who they are, so don't worry too much about general reviews. Focus on finding an account, regional or dedicated, that will let you get a feel for trucking without throwing you into the deepend right off. Look at hometime and where their closest terminal is to where you live.

Avoid OTR accounts that force you to stay out for weeks at a time with companies that don't have a terminal anywhere near your home. If you don't think you want flatbed, DO NOT let anyone sell you on it.

That's the kind of team driver you want.
With the Fed giving in on interest rates. Things should be picking up big time. Might wait?
