Apparently someone never pulled a rail wagon with the pins hopelessly stuck. A bungee cord wouldn't do it, and what I did, was pull the handle, and attach a vise grip so the handle won't go back in, and a good whack with a sledge. Funny, the rail yards used a water hose, and it worked.

We were always told by trailer mechanics to use water, not oil or WD-40.
The reason being, in the long term the oils only made it worse by collecting dirt and grime and exacerbates rusting.

So I'm a little embarrassed to update this but I hate when things are left hanging. So I got a rental up to this company. It was a 15 hour drive from South Florida to Kentucky. Now I"m not going to name this company because you just never know but they have some very serious bad reviews on Google etc......some only 2 months old. Bad equipment...trainees being stuck for weeks waiting on trainers.....etc. I ignore it because they are the only company that had interest in taking me on and I'm grasping at anything I guess...lol (Again....havent been in a truck in 2 years....live in South Florida)

Now this company owns there own motel to put people in. I pull in and at first I thought it couldnt be opened because the place looked abandoned and run down. Literally looked like a place that had been sitting empty for a year. I go in to the desk clerk and get my key and head to the room. The paint on the door to the room is half peeled off and I have to move an old paint bucket full of cigarette butts to get to the room...lol When I went into the room I was just gut punched. It was just so seedy and run down I couldnt believe it. What little furniture that was in there looked like stuff people grab out of dumpsters......the mattress cover was stained with brown marks.....I dont think its ever been changed.....the sheets were sketchy.

I'm not a prima donna. I've travelled around and I've spent more than a few nights in cheapy places but this place would never have passed an inspection if it was open to the public. The bathroom surprisingly was somewhat clean. I'm thinking to myself ......this is the first impression you want to give your new hires? Like if they dont give a crap now.......whats it like working for them

So now I'm sitting there and I'm getting a real bad feeling that I made a mistake. I dont have a ton of cash at this point to get back home or stay in this motel for weeks if things dont turn out right. So of course I'm a bit freaked out and decide I'm not staying. Give back the key and leave a voice message with the recruiter and I headed back to Florida because I still had their rental. Thats right......Almost 2000 miles, 30 hours in two days.....lol
So yes.....I'm probably an idiot and I'm fine if you call me one...lol When I got back home I've been putting in apps with #### near all the megas and anybody I thought might give me a shot but my 2 years out of trucking and especially my living in south Florida I am boxed out. CRST driving teams and signing a 10 month contract didnt want me. Western Express of all places said sorry we dont hire out of that area....lol

I've tried local but of course they want experience and the auto restriction hurts so I think me and trucking are done for awhile unless demand picks up. Just not a good time for truck job hunting. Should i have stayed and seen what happened? probably........but financially I really wasnt in a position to get stuck up there at the time. It is what it is.

Don't beat yourself up for walking away from a bad situation. South FL is a bad place for trucking. There are some good jobs there but not enough and it is on most trucking company's "No Thank You" list. There just isn't enough freight coming out of FL to justify trucking companies taking a chance on people down there.

You need to decide whether you want to be in trucking or be in South FL. Too many people are given bad advice that they can hold on to a particular millstone and still succeed at their goal. Maybe. Too many people let TV and movies corrupt their thinking that EVERY problem can be overcome with a sassy attitude and just refusing to accept rejection. I'm sorry but some "dreams" are not going to happen. If you live in Kansas and have always dreamed of being a coal miner, you have to move or mine something else. Perhaps I'm bitter because my dream didn't work out and I was in South FL when it didn't happen. I'm somewhat predisposed to suggest "leave FL" for most questions. It's good for vacations and not as good for lots of jobs. There just isn't nearly enough industry to support everyone that doesn't like snow and who wants to live in FL. Ditto for Hawaii.

You'll find something else. It's just 1 event in your life. It's not the end to all good things in your life.
