I hope once the new scale is built in headingly they do run it 24/7. Was doing an en route lcv check and had a mobile officer stop to make sure I was ok. Checked my licence and permit book, that’s all. Told him I hope they pound everyone, including lcv drivers. He winked and said there’s no shortage of violations to write up.

    Only 41%?

That's actually much lower than I'd have guessed if I'm being honest.

Most seem to equate the term “Commercial Vehicle” with just a semi truck. Any vehicle used for commercial purposes is regarded as a Commercial Vehicle.

During these inspection blitz’ they do seek out landscape, construction, trades contractors, junk/scrap removal, etc; all sorts of lighter duty vehicles used for commercial purposes. Oftentimes these operators don’t have their stuff together and it’s low hanging fruit for officers.

However I’d agree, 41% does seem low. There’s a disturbing amount of riff raff on the roads.

I’ve said it here many times I run coast to coast every night when I stop I go for a walk, which usually consist of taking laps around the truckstop. And I’ve said many times here that it’s a good thing. I’m not a DOT officer because just at a glance I could put at least a third of the trucks out of service. Just for tires alone. And I’m not inspecting these are just obvious things that are glaring. These are the truck drivers that have taken over our industry and are putting you out of business. And this is one clue how they’re doing it. They don’t maintain anything. They don’t follow any of the rules. It is a new class of outlaw truckers. Right under your nose. Taking your money.

14 trucks put OOS, 41% rate means a total of 35 trucks were inspected during this 'blitz'. How many trucks went by that day? 2,000 seems like a reasonable guess, so they inspected less than 2% of the trucks. Extrapolating out there are at least 200 other trucks that should have been put OOS. Carriers and Drivers are willing to run substandard equipment because they know the odds are they won't get inspected, and when they eventually do get caught the fines are less than the cost of continual compliance.

In my state the hottest targets for the State Police are hotshots, landscape crews, and 6-wheel box trucks.
