How many foreigners does it take to bankrupt a company?

No wonder brokers , lately , refused to pay detention and/or layover .
I’m in this business for over 13 years as 100% independent O/O.
I charge for my service . Layover, detention , extra stops , driver unload /load .
This is a business . They charge their customers for what you do , remember that .
If you don’t charge them , they will get used to and will end u putting in their contracts as a rule .
Who came up with 3 hrs waiting for free ???
Who came up with 250.00 layover ? Who came up with up to 150 .00 detention ???
    How can someone accept a payment of 250.00 for having a reefer on at -10 or -20 , all night for 250.00 ??? In a 115f .
Just because you want to have a job , you are selling yourself for pennies ??? Seriously?
Slavery mentality !!! Then we blame brokers ???? For being stingy ?

That mentality that I have got me my own customers now. I don’t have to fully rely on brokers anymore. Imagine that. I do not charge layover or detention for my customer. Doesn’t matter a bit to me if I’m making 3 to 4 dollars a mile regional to long haul these days. If I wasn’t, I guess I would penny pinch every moment. But my customer doesn’t like the hassle of the little nonsense and as long as they pay, I’m happy.

Good for you . The only thing I want to say is , when your customers find cheaper labor than you , you will have not customers , and please , don’t blame someone else for your own way of doing business.
    Best wishes for you .

I’ll be starting my third season with my potato customer. They set the rates At the beginning of the season and I accept or reject the rate. If I reject the rate, they find another carrier. That’s how they’ve been doing business for decades. They can fire me at any time If they don’t like my service for whatever reason imaginable. But I’m not too much fear of being undercut because like I said, they said the rate, and I accept or reject at the beginning of the shipping season. It’s been a challenging period as we have not seen the normal en and flow of Capacity, the last few years. Many had to shut their doors, Big and small. But I’m still here. so what I’m doing must be working.

Strangely as we discussed this topic… I am on a brokered load currently. First come first serve I was here first thing in the morning. Farmer informed me if I was here at 7 AM he would’be loaded me now I must wait till 1400 until he gets back from church. Mind you I was there at 7:50 for eight 8 am opening. He told me to stay my truck and do not call him or bother him. He was upset that the brokers scheduled it for during the day when he has plans.. so obviously I went for detention. it’s not like I’m being held up by a whole bunch of trucks or the loading process. I’m being held up just because somebody doesn’t feel like working, but yet somebody wanted me to be there. Easy fix… update the rate con with a new load amount or I drive off. Now I am getting paid for the farmer to do whatever he likes to do other than load me.

Yes, the customer might find someone to do it CHEAPER not for more money. So, I politely ask you, what is your point exactly?

Poking around TQL for my last resort return load and rates seem to have actually popped up a little bit, not that I expect a whole lot out of them to begin with, hopefully the regular guy we use out here can put something together though
