I'm in the Fraser Valley in BC and I'm looking to return to trucking full time. I have a 24 hr drug suspension on my abstract that will be 5 years old at the end of October.

I have about 7 or 8 years combined experience, most of that being on the highway in the 90s. Some town experience with roll offs in the late 2010's. I do not wish to go back on the highway.

I'm unsure as to whether I should apply for jobs or wait until the suspension is gone. Can anyone offer some advice?

In this market, wait until your record is clean. No disrespect, but ask yourself, if an employer is looking at 20 resumes, none have a drug suspension except yours, what do you think your chances are? Like I said to the other guy, 3/4 of a million unemployed cdl holders.

No offense taken. That's exactly why I'm asking the question. I know a 90 day is a killer, but I don't know how employers look at a 24 hour. When I got this one, I found out how easy it is to get one. Even after passing the roadside test, they failed me for involuntary eye movements. I spend thousands trying to get it removed, and finally had to give up.

Like mentioned above right now there’s way more drivers looking for work then companies hiring right now and unfortunately with your situation you would be at the bottom of most companies lists . I don’t see much changing for a while either with these tariff wars going on

Honestly I don’t think it matters if it’s 24 hours or 90 days. I’d wait until it’s off your record.

I have to ask. How ya get a 24 hour suspension. Test positive but not impaired?
In Ontario ya can get a 72 hour suspension for blowing under the alcohol limit but have not heard of anyone getting a “maybe high” suspension.

I got a job with Chambers with a 24 hour that was only a few years old. This was 15 years ago though.

This reminds me i need to pull my 2025 icbc abstracts for my own driver file LOL, I wonder if its still on there.

I dont think theres any harm in applying anywhere
