Delivering to gas stations requires a really good feel for your trailer, a lot of navigating around pumps and pylons. Also a lot of technical backing in tight spaces, either backing in to a station off the street, or to straighten out once you're in. But your beverage experience is super valuable, my company prefers to hire beverage drivers over anyone else, so if you have any experience at all driving a beverage tractor trailer delivering to convenience stores, emphasize that as much as you can on your application.
Zonno, lual and FloridaBoy93 Thank this. -
It seemed like before I had hazmat everyone said “oh just get hazmat and call us back”
now that I have it
“oh you need hazmat experience before we can hire you”
about to start pulling my hair out lolZonno Thanks this. -
I'm assuming "hazmat experience" is just being used interchangeably with "fuel delivery experience" because the actual hazmat part of this job is pretty braindead. We run the same placards all the time and stop for train tracks, that's about it. So I bet if you had chemical tanker experience that wouldn't really help you either. The companies in your area just want drivers who are already carded and can hit the ground running. Try KAG if you haven't already, and stay persistent. Good luck to you.Zonno, lual and FloridaBoy93 Thank this.

Yeah, job market is trash. I'm running fuel for a company that shorts you on every paycheck. Clean record, lots of exp., etc.
Today is payday. Shorted 50 from last paycheck, still not on this check. Shorted another 600ish on this paycheck. So I've had 650 dollars stolen in the past 2 paychecks alone. -
Thats how my first fuel hauling company was, on top of getting paid 40% below the market average. Tons of older guys are still there because they dont have to slipseat trucks and they can make their own schedule to a large degree. Personally i dont see how thats worth it, i left within 4 months after my boss directly lied to me.Last edited: Sep 11, 2025

Ugh, I'm slipseating a 750k mile rattle trap. Start times aren't super rigid, within 15 mins either way. All night work though. Which I prefer to the point of refusing to work a daytime job but still.
With this current paycheck I've averaged 21.73/hr no OT. -
How many years have you been hauling fuel now? Pilot would definitely pay better than that
-
Class a 7 years, tanker 3+, hazmat 2, fuel a few months.
Pilot doesnt have an opening here atm. Applied to them last year and got no response. Same with kag, loves/gemini, and maverick.
Im looking everyday for something better and applying when I can.Zonno, FloridaBoy93 and Whiteout out West Thank this. -
I’m just gonna do food service, the job markets trash. Maybe I’ll revisit hazmat later.
