Hey all! This transmission sits in a 2007 international 9400i with a cat15. It has been throwing a code 35, while I’m working on testing the wiring harness for resistance and voltage, an odd thing has me perplexed.
I have an air leak. Cant figure out where it’s coming from… most likely from the parking brake release buttons. However… the push button auto shifter has a 13 pin wire harness connected to it. And when I pull it out, the air leak stops. Plug it back in and the air leak starts again. It’s been going on for a while now. But this electrical wire harness has no air to it. So why is the air leaking while it’s plugged in. My mechanic and tranny mechanic are baffled with this. Anyone come across this issue? Please help me understand why air leaks and stops due to an electrical wire harness…

File was too large to upload. You can get the manual from the Eaton website or online.
Code 35 is a J1939 communication error. Either a wiring harness or ECM. Page 2 lists your trans and Code 35 diagnosis starts on page 132.
Most likely the electrical controls air via a solenoid. Air flow starts or stops depending on the signal.

Thanks for a quick reply. I have the same booklet and printed the parts for testing voltage and resistance... the mechanic will test the 38pin and diagnostic port as i can't get to it, which will give me more details on if the data link on wire harness is faulty. i measured across the data link on my 6 pin diagnostic port and the resistance was 891 ohms, which far exceeds eaton specs. The voltage on each data link pin equalled 5Volts. The tranny mechanic showed me there was an electric air solenoid which shifts the fork to top 10 gears and was baffled at why plugging and unplugging shifter wire harness causes the leak. it goes back there next week to do the testing and trouble shoot the air leak. I hope this is an easy fix cuz this hunk of junk is sinking me.

My guess is the air piston is leaking and when you plug/unplug the wiring it stops the air flow to the piston.

Listen at the transmission vent for air. If it's coming out of there your leak is internal to the transmission housing.

No one so far can accurately identify if an ECM is faulty or not... cat15 ecu, abs bendix ecu, eaton Tecu. This week i will have my transmission mechanic measure the wire harness. I have gone to some reputable mechanics. i wish there was an easy way to know if these ecu's are faulty. Everytime a mechanic has put their proprietary scanner on: Cat ET scanner, Bendix scanner and eaton scanners show zero errors. And twice now, two different mechanics have hooked up JPro and the engine has stalled or didn't connect. Another buddy has a decent scanner and it cannot connect from any settings choosen. The code 35 was from manually pulling it from key on/off test. Drivability currently tells me there are issues with shifting gears: low throttle/spiking rpms... or reshifting into same gear on first gear to 3rd gear.

My options here... replacing wire harness cat ecu to tranny $2500CAD, TECU $4000+, cat ecu $2500+, ABS ecu $3800+, cat15 wire harness $1800, cat15 injector harnesses $600 each... throwing money unknowlingly in this current market isn't an option however my first guess would be the wiring harness to TECU. Maybe i just buy another rig and park this and save up to pick away at it.

Need the Eaton Service Ranger software. Has anyone used that? There is a method in the manual where you touch a button on the shifter while driving and it records data before and after the event (might be when it sets a code). Using Service Ranger the file can then be downloaded and sent to Eaton where they will diagnose the problem. Or someone could try calling Eaton first and tell them about Code 35.
