Sorry for your troubles.......but, never release the truck before the bill is paid. Lesson learned.

 

Yeah, never heard of a repair shop, mobile or not, giving the keys or enabling the truck before getting paid. Same goes with Tow Trucks.

I can tell you from towing that
1. Never unhook or unblock them until their payment goes through
2. If I have to call cops out there and wait, it's going to cost a lot more
3. Law Enforcement NEVER sides with someone trying to stiff you
4. Don't trust anyone, regardless of how interesting their story gets. They pay before their truck is free to move

 

Put a lien on the equipment.

You can. It's a bit of hassle but you can definitely do it. When they go to sell the equipment they will discover the lein on the title and that will be fun times

 

As you are a wrecker and recovery outfit I think it's fair to warn you that the entire landscape of Chicago and the surrounding burbs is dotted with fly by night ripoff trucking companies. Best of luck getting your dues and watch you step in the future.
