I used to work for a flatbed company that did the same things to me. I got through two years, so I’d have the experience to go elsewhere that paid mileage. I’ll never work percentage again.

No mention in all of this of how many miles you are running or how much time is spent for each of these loads.

I pull an end dump and it’s the same crap where I’m at, “gotta back out the fuel” I hate the logic behind this but it’s our choice to stay or go, I’ve chose to stay and accept it as part of the bulk industry unfortunately.

He gets a fuel surcharge.. plus looks like taking about 30% from linehaul..before I get my percentage...so I'm getting paid from pretty much Net.. never worked for a company that pays this way.. I'm going to ask for him to be transparent and if not..I'm done..

I’ve had the argument many times with my employer, I’ve been here 13 years, I say “I should be paid first, off gross, then they can back out their fuel and maintenance”. I’m always shut down with some BS logic I don’t understand, not long ago I had a 2 pick load of wiring harnesses in Atlanta going all the way down to Miami, I saw the all in rate when I was sent the info for the P/U’s I did the math on what should’ve been my rate and it was nearly a $180 shortage, that was almost my last load with the company, but here I am still. I fully agree with you, we’re getting the shaft, it’s worse when you see it clear as day.

% pay leaves more room for dishonesty than mileage or hourly pay. None of them fix all the pay problems drivers complain about. Each method brings problems and avoids other problems. NONE of them will keep a dishonest employer from cheating the driver. Many drivers seem to think someone else has the job of protecting the driver from a dishonest employer. It's the driver's job to ask the right questions up front, and verify the answers, before deciding where to work. ANY EXCUSE for not doing that is a driver volunteering to be cheated. Don't be a volunteer to be cheated. You're an adult, your parents, teachers, other adults are not going to take care of you. If you don't investigate who you work for, don't complain you got cheated. It it's important to do the investigation. And worst of all, your investigation may require an actual conversation on the phone or face to face with other drivers instead of asking ChatGPT or AI. <shudder>
