I know l/o is the way of the future for trucking companies (my opinion) and not necessarily good for the drivers. However, is anyone aware of any l/o programs out there that are reasonably balanced, or is it generally accepted that one and all will nail your hide.
I have a very extensive business background, so leasing isn't something new to me, but I'm curious how all this works in the trucking industry.
Personally,I'm leaning towards just buying a truck and leasing myself to a company. Is that a no no as well?
I have zero experience as an O/O, but have been a company driver over the years, as well as owned my own business successfully for a number of years. I've just returned to driving after a few years away. It's changed a lot!

Even if he posts numbers here, I can see you saying those are not real.
I know if I posted mine you would say b/s so why would I bother.
-
feel free to PM me I'd like to see your numbers. I want to know of the guys that are out there making it too. I'm just a newbie learning...
I know it gets old posting when everyone just wants to argue with you. Thanks in advance SLCTrucker! -
My last contact with a known England driver was in Oregon on I-84 about 3 years ago; he was heading back to his home terminal in SLC to turn his truck in and immediately go to work for a reefer outfit that was close by.
He stated he got involved in the lease purchase program without doing the proper homework. He basically stated that England had lied to him so much that he had no respect for the company as a whole.
I still recall the Swift 'trainees'(?!) who claimed they were making $2,000 a week while training and were guaranteed to double that figure upon completion of 'training'....

SLC, I'd like to see your numbers too....and I sure wouldn't call bs on ya either. I've followed most of your posts and you seem like a straight shooter to me. You certainly don't come across sounding like a recruiter either. I think its possible to be successful at anything as long as you have the right attitude...and I believe you do. Good luck and drive safe!

Hey SLCTrucker,
Were you in Birmingham on Saturday the 8th by any chance? I was sitting next to a white CR England cascadia at a stop light. -
No reason not to believe you - but that's not the point.
For everyone of you who are doing "good" (which is relative) ... there are plenty more that are not - and as a well defined pattern with certain companies.
Lots of people win- and many more lose at the casino too ...
This is about specific issues, policies, program quality, and an evident trend of failure more than success.
And yes, many are not cut out to run a business as a contractor - and shouldn't consider any of these programs until they learn the ropes.
AfterShock and ambivalence Thank this. -
I will post numbers later this week.
Can't do what I'm trying to from a iPhone.
