Melton doesn't play games with your pay, either. Same cpm empty or loaded, regardless of distance, unless it's very short, in which case you get a flat bonus. Not huge, but something. $50 tarp/untarp so you at least get paid for your part of it even if you repowered it with the tarps on. I talked to a swift driver the other day and he said his goes up and down. I don't see how anybody could be okay with that, but maybe they don't know that it isn't like that everywhere.

Yeah that's kinda my thought.i came in anticipating mid 60s first year.on paper it's achievable.my load securement eats up my time.lumber and flat steel I do in a reasonable time frame it's the multi tier and oddball loads that kill me.i think I do ok on clock management.try to save every min of drive and on duty I can.had about 4 or 5 hour road delay on Thursday in Louisiana and still playing catch up from that.melton doesn't allow the two hour exemption for unforseen circumstances

YeA the pay is definitely good for a training co,it's even better then some of the non training companies.if I get my load delivered on Monday before cut off I think I will be in neighborhood of 3000 miles and 2 tarp pays.some places might pay more but don't give you the miles.i try to look at big picture

Second week check just landed.1,040.should of been 600 more but I messed up on hours of service.had to do a reset and deliver on tue instead of Mon..payroll cutoff is noon monday.oh well live and learn.i think it will affect my next check too.its our choice but Melton likes to run recaps.coming from construction I am use to working long hours.so only doing 8 hr days is a hard concept for me to get use to.

You don't necessarily have to do all 8s. You can do 7 10s and a day off or close to that. That way you don't need the whole 34 hours to start getting time back and it's much easier to do that under a load so you aren't just sitting. I don't think 8 hours a day is enough to work with either.

No need to do 8 a day or even out hours on recaps. The quicker you use it, the quicker you get the hours back. This is a common mistake that a lot of drivers make.

Do they let you log 15 mins max for all loading/unloading or do they make you log however long it actually takes? When I did flatbed, logging my real on-duty time would have totally killed my pay.

Internal guidance is a reasonable amount of time must be logged for those activities.
