It's important to pick a company you will stay put with & not keep changing companies. That means doing enough research about the company. It also means knowing what you need to stick around for a year or two. You are close to being seen as a job hopper which can really knock you out of working at better companies where conditions are better.

The questions are moreso how long have you been out of a truck? Also, how long have you been at each job?

The reason why some of those jobs want you to relocate is because its not always that easy to get a driver home to certain parts of the country. It just comes down to theur freight lanes. They don't have huge amounts of freight going to or through those places..I'd imagine New Mexico would be one of those spots. The OTR jobs are in a little more abundance if you live east of I-35.

    You are absolutely correct!
I didn't realize how hard I was shooting myself in the foot by not staying grounded during the first four years of trucking @tscottme
I now realize that I should've taken my time to do the research before making the transition.

Sounds like you have solid experience, even if it’s spread out.
The good thing about OTR is you don’t always have to relocate. A lot of mid-sized and regional carriers let you start near home. Going back to a mega carrier can work if nothing else fits, but the pay is usually lower.

If you’re looking for better rates and flexibility, focus on mid-sized companies that run national routes, like Roehl Transport, Hirschbach Motor Lines, or Dart Transit. They often value experienced drivers, offer competitive pay, and don’t usually require relocation.

Apply to a few options, be honest about your experience, and you’ll see who is willing to work with you.

Billy Joel resorting to driving a truck? Good heavens, didn't Ricky Nelson do that?

What about beginner tanker companies? I've looked and haven't found any that will take on begginer drivers...I've already tried Schneider but they have nothing in my area. Prime, Inc says they're not looking for tanker drivers right now...
