Yes. When hooking back up:
They removed the dozer.
I backup and get under the trailer.
I dropped my suspension and removed my 6x6. And pull my fifth wheel.
I get in the truck and try to drive and that's when I'm stuck.
Mechanical RGN Neck came off 6X6

Has anyone ever used or seen anybody use those bear claws that you put over your tires for traction in mud and snow?

A set of 8mm Tryggs (triples). Essential piece of kit for any off-road use….
Keep in mind that loose “pea” gravel shown in your pictures requires very smooth drivetrain engagement, or tires will just spin and dig (including with chains mounted)Attached Files:

I will look into this, but they look exactly like my tire chains for snow

Options for fixing what you got are a few.
More aggressive open shoulder tires with bigger lugs and spaces. They will have a negative affect on fuel mileage but will help traction.
Taller fifth wheel risers so you have a chance to dig down to hard pack in loose gravel before the trailer hits the ground.
Add an over air switch/valve to your suspension. This will allow you to bypass the leveling valve and put max pressure into your suspension to lift higher.
If you got stuck empty trying to pull out from under the trailer then consider cleaning your fifth wheel and giving it a fresh coat of grease and dont be stingy about how much you use.cke, Landincoldfire, Feedman and 4 others Thank this. -
I will add the over air valve switch next week while on the road I’m pretty sure just about any shop could do it. Hopefully they have a valve in stock.

Right, but… chains are also extremely useful in mud/off-road settings..
High quality steel is essential, standard issues for the tri-drive loggers here in B.C. (mountains) are Tryggs (or equivalent). Cheap chains will easily break cross links (which then flail about causing damage).
Also, as mentioned open shoulder heavy lug drives would help significantly..
Good luck!cke, Feedman, AFC and 1 other person Thank this. -
If you do this do not go down the road with it on. You will blow an air bag. Only use it for slow speeds while loading or unloading or to clear an obstacle.cke, Landincoldfire, Feedman and 3 others Thank this.

You should definitely have an over valve on the tractor and on the trailer .

A "temporary" way to help to raise your deck height is to shim the back of your neck. A 1/8th inch shim can raise the deck 3/4 inch or so at the front. It is an extra step when hooking up and dropping the neck.Last edited: Oct 17, 2025
