It's not complicated at all the market is what keeps downward pressure on rates and wages. Trucking is not that difficult to get into and the less specialized any part of it is naturally the rates/wages will be worse.
OTR drivers make the equivalent of $21.50 per hour

Noticed the OP deleted his posts.

He edited his posts so that content is gone. But you can still see many of them quoted in others posts. Maybe he thought he would get a lot of agreement but that didn't happen.
-
I deleted them (technically edited them) at around 1am Thursday during the midnight hours because of what I perceived to be aggressively hateful responses from 90% of the replies. I then deleted my posts out of frustration as well. I feared that if I gave my true responses after reading all the replies, then I would have the possibility of getting banned for what I was about to say back to them. So I stepped away because I respect the mods and all the hard and thankless work that they do on this site to do that.

Some people think they are called to save the world AND the world wants to be saved by that one person. I think we call those people Karens.

I try not to think of it in terms of hourly or compartmental. If I run hard and I have a good week, I can make $3000. Of course I end up with about half of that after all the deductions. But I do contribute quite a bit to my 401(k). So I’ll look at it like where else am I gonna go and what else am I gonna do that? To make $3000 in a week? Now that’s not every week. Most weeks around $2000. Yes, I live on a truck and I live out on the road. And yes I put in a lot of my own time and yes, I babysit equipment and freight and I understand the whole dynamic but it’s all compact in one setting for us. That’s the benefit. You’re not having to go out and work three different jobs. You don’t have to commute home and then commute to another job to make that kind of money. It’s all in your truck and all out on the road. And every once in a while, if you’re lucky, you get to get off of that truck and do something fun. Also, if you’re smart, you can set yourself up to keep your bills down very and you can save money really quick and set yourself up to do something else if you want. I don’t look at it in terms of $21 an hour. Everyone makes $20 an hour or more now.

This ^^^
OTR drivers live in their trucks. If they want to convert their pay to an hourly rate, they have to count 24-hours per day at work. I don't care how many miles they get or what their CPM is, that math will always produce an ugly result.
Hourly pay is for workers who go home at night. OTR drivers have to think yearly. -
I imagine the on time percentage would go way down if all OTR drivers were paid by the hour. You get there when you get there, pays the same regardless.
MSWS Thanks this.
