Cat IAP sensors are really sensitive to very fine debris getting into them and giving you a no start. That is with a decent filter. Try a garbage filter and see what you get. Bearing damage, low pressure on start up, plugged bypass, paper media blowing apart from the cheap filter and clogging the high pressure rail etc. You can spend a buck or two now or 20 thousand later

I do not know about all that and have been told of different companies that make filters for Cat over the years. Has anyone seen another filter head built as heavy as a Cat brand? I have not. Even if other companies make those for them possibly the media is better also for Cat specs. Sometimes I do not buy OEM brand myself but not any offshore. If it is under warranty they have an out.Feedman, W923, Diesel Dave and 2 others Thank this.

I bought a case of them not realizing they weren't cat, didn't realize my mistake until I had already drained oil and then opened the new box, that filter stayed on for two days until I could get cat filters in, I wasn't gonna chance a "test" for something that is that valuable
Big Road Skateboard and Oxbow Thank this. -
I always used Fram or WIX on my BC Cummins, and never had an oil related problem. Now coolant, that's a different story.

Cut a new Fram open some time. Wix works fine for me on everything but Cat. I have used Fleetrite on Cummins for a long time with no issues. There are a lot of cheap fake Cat filters out there that are yellow and have the same lettering and everything but they don't say CAT. Same color. If you look under the truck you would probably think it's a real oil filter. They work at faking the appearance. I am tempted to buy one and cut it open. If I do, I will put the photos here. I have a cut open Fram car filter I could put here, you would never buy one again.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
I wouldn’t hesitate to use Donaldson fleetguard or Baldwin…not quite sure how I feel about wix
Yes all of the above companies make filters for major oems but their own version is not always the same. As far as Chinese no names….not a chance I would trust one…I used to work for a guy who liked to say if they could #### in a box and sell it they wouldBig Road Skateboard and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
Cat filters are built way heavier than anything else I’ve ever seen…fuel filters particularly will hold more pressure than any aftermarket version…. Or at least that’s been my experience…but as far as the media failing from to much differential pressure I don’t knowDiesel Dave Thanks this.

Buying off-brand is always a bad gamble, but there is also caution to be told about genuine brands that may be sold unusually cheap. There are FAKE filters out their, counterfeit parts are a big problem. So if you do buy a name brand, always buy from a reputable source. Check out this post regarding fake Fleetguard filters;
