Hi there, I noticed this black soot all over on the roof of my truck. Its more on the passenger side and way less on the driver side.
Any help on what might be going on would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you![]()

I know that it is coming from the exhaust. But, need guidance on what might be causing it. I am suspecting that there might be an exhaust leak where the joint for the two stacks meet. Thinking of taking that apart.

Most any pre-emission/deleted truck will have soot in the exhaust. In my experience what you are seeing is normal, especially if it has been shut off in a rainstorm.

I see. it was fine before. only started happening recently. I am not used to seeing this, but hopefully you are right and that it is normal.Oxbow Thanks this.

You got water in the stacks, and that's the result of start up, happens in mine alot if I don't just let it idle for awhile to heat the water out of the exhaust, this is only after I wash it or if it has driving rain pushing water into the stacks

On my former trucks, @Oxbow hit it on the money, when it rained, (I’ve had flat top exhaust tips) I would get that kind of soot.

If the DPF was left in place and not removed or modified it is now cracked and leaking.
My guess would be you just had a software modification of some kind.Rideandrepair, Diesel Dave, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this.
