I had a problem with crack heads breaking into my garage when I lived in the city and got so fed up with it I camped out in my backyard in a nice dark spot with my Mossberg 500 and a pack of Marlboro's.

To my surprise someone showed up to steal what was left in the garage, once the two guys went into my garage i got up and walked over to the garage door, slammed it shut and racked a round off into the ground and said " i hope you boys get comfy cause the law is on the way". Never was broken into again.

Im sure the warning shot was a little much but hey I wanted them to go to jail with crap filled undies.

i had the same problem once put up a fence and got a rotweiler one night at 1 am the cops call want me to come down to my shop my dog is barking up a storm and someone screaming open the front door call the dog off (well trained) the cops rush in i peek around on top of my olds 442 sits a man with one heck of a bloody leg. the cops ask him how he got in? he said through the dog door. if the big ##### dog door wasnt a clue he must of been clueless. other than that incidence havent had anymore breakins.

    Hello all,

Thanks for the ideas and keep'em coming! I actually have three dogs, a great dane, a sheppard X Dane cross and a greater swiss mountain dog so I have the dog thing covered when I'm there but I don't feel right leaving them up there. After talking with neighbors, the guy that own the property two people before me (non local) had similar problems and had a rotti chained up that the neighbor fed during the week. Unfortunately the thieves new the length of the chain and tormented the dog. He also tried a couple of other methods such as hooking up the truck box to a few car batteries and electrocuted a kid which resulted in the retaliation of his trailer being burnt to a crisp. I've been told that one night a pack of guys were doing donuts in ATVs on his lawn and he fired a shot to scare them off and the police were called and he was thrown in jail and his hunting license was taken away for three years for firing a fire arm after dark. I forgot to mention I live in Canada so it is very hard to protect your property. Trust me I'm not a guy that backs down from dirt bags like this, but if I start a war, I'm not living up there so I'm going to loose. I'm 0.8 of a mile of bush from my closest neighbur on an unassumed gravel dead end road. I tried putting up a gate by the paved road but the minister of transport made me taken it down as they said someone might kill themselves as it was pretty heavily duty. They told me they would look the other way if the gate was further back from the road but then no one from the road side can see anyone trying to cut the lock. If they have the ability to cut through the truck box they should be able to cut a heavy chain. I'm at a lose and the wife doesn't feel safe up there, which is becoming it's own issue.
    Cheers,
    Kyle

Do the battery thing but on the shingle and nails! Straight into the body! Or you can do the air tight deal on an empty box! Just remember an explosive booby trap could put you in jail and the thieves suing your arse!

Kyle, boobytraps and all that stuff sounds like alot of fun until someone sets it off who is either A) a thief, or B) some poor kid who just leaned up against your fence, either way you will have to explain yerself.

Cameras (real or otherwise), motion detector flood lights, security systems (like ADT and such), and lit up signage that tells these dumb ______ that they are under watch will be the best DETURANTS.

Nothing is fool proof. But I can say from personal experience that when I had an alarm on a rual home that several of my neighbors homes/garages got broken into, but never mine. Was it the security system that made em think twice? I'd like to think so.

You and Mr. Smith and Wesson need to camp out in the brush and wait for the fools to show up. Then have a little discussion etc.

Dog is the best option, fencing around the trailer, stick a couple of dogs in it. Not one. More then one. And make sure they are angry pissy hate everyone but you sort of dogs. Or fence it and stick a nice rank bull in there.

Or get a broken generator and rig it to explode when its used. So they steal it, take it home, turn it on... BOOM!

Or get a broken generator and get a tracking device, find them right where they live.

Dunno what your money limit is lol.

Chances are booby traps will just make them mad but I'll share this anyway.

When I was a younger lad I had a problem with people messing with my deer stand. I failed to catch them and after a couple of times I had enough.

So... I got 4 car antennas and cut the threaded ends off of them. Then I drilled a little tiny hole in the trunk of some trees about shin high on the path to my stand. Then I stuck an antenna into each hole that I drilled and wrapped it around the back of the tree. I tied some tip-up line to the antennas and then some fishing line to the tip-up line as a trip wire.

A few days went by, I took a look around and low and behold some of the antenna traps were sprung. I never figured who did it but I never had anymore problems either.

Somebody got a real good shin knocking and decided it wasn't worth the effort to keep messing around.
