That's another point, it's an adjustment for the wife too. My wife got me a tee shirt that says " retired truck driver, now I stay home and drive my wife crazy".:)

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? My biggest fear is having children and missing them grow up. I have a 6 month old nephew and I try to see him as much as possible. I work nights and mainly sleep all day so I'd be crushed not being able to see my son like I'd want because I have to do this!

Im 46. I will tell you my honest opinion. I respect everyone that works hard to support them self or their families. But honestly Im in no different position in life than before a family. Basically nobody truly knows me at home. I have always been gone. 2 weeks, 3 months and even at Walmart it was 5 days. Its really tough being home. But this next half is about me. So Im doing what I choose to do

Doing what you want to do is great but I will tell you that you need to find time to spend with your family. Not to far own the road you will be looking to spend time with any of your family and they might not want to be with you as they don't really know you.
I found out early and came off of OTR and went LTL which paid better and provided me family time which is not replaceable. Now retired I enjoy quality time with my wife and visit my children on a regular basis.

Exactly. Otr honestly ruined my family relationship. Honestly I don’t know how repairable it is

I know. I was able to attend sports events, school activities and other things like my son thru boy scouts all the way to being an Eagle Scout, him earning 12 letters in high school sports and enlisting in US Navy. And my daughter thru Brownies, Senior girl scouts and also enlisting in US Navy. You can't beat family home time and also many vacations and a wonderful 46 year marriage.

This is one of my biggest fears. No kids or wife yet, but I'd hate to be gone so much and miss everything. Trucking is such a hard life for many! I'm currently ltl so it's better but I work nights and I hate that lol.

I am thankful to be consistently working though. It's hard for everyone right now
