    As per the title.

I have a business credit line with BMO, with an associated credit card. 25k CAD credit limit. Always pay off my invoices in full. Never missed a payment, thank god. My personal credit score has been for a couple of months steady at 845, never dipping below 832. I carry no debt. Truck and cars are paid off and i am not paying any support to anybody. Incorporated and leased on to a carrier, under their dispatch and authority.

Reached back to BMO after a year with them under said conditions (chequing/savings/credit line for business) and after submitting my T2 and corp financial statements the credit limit increase (for another 25k CAD) request was denied; They stated the reason was the corporation profit and loss report and operating expenses as well as the current market conditions risky for lending to truck drivers. Unless those improve, i would have a hard time getting more credit with BMO even considering i have been a customer for 10 years. I am basically just trying to get prepared as best as i can for the future so i can better grow my business.

So for the owner operators out here.... what do you recommend and how do you go about it?

Look at credit unions, and if you are in Alberta, ATB (Alberta Treasury Bank).

They tend to be a bit easier to with regards to lending criteria.

I use TD Bank and they’re from Canada.

BMO I use solely for equipment financing and they have always given me a decent credit line along with Mitsubishi Capital (Formerly ENGS)

Check into BDC... they may offer a loc?
I financed my engine job through them a few years back. Super easy process and very flexible terms at the time.

Ive got a 100k loc for my business, but its secured by the house. Im sure most will argue thats the absolute worst way to do it. But, its kept a fire lit under my ### thats for sure.

I will not recommend my credit union. Because if you are going through a divorce and want to borrow more money to buy another half of your house, they think you have nothing better to do but wait on the edge of your seat with your thumb in your ### for 13 days (and counting) in between back and forth emails with them.

I've had two great equipment purchase experiences through Canadian Western Bank, they may be worth a look as well

Canadian Western Bank has been bought out by National Bank based out of Quebec, I had good experiences with them years ago when I was living outside Montreal.

Thank you for answering. I haven't considered credit unions, but i will research that idea. I am Ontario, so ATB would not work for me.

I actually heard people mention TD and RBC as being "friendlier" for O/O's... I have a better feeling about TD, for whatever reason. Might be the green color. LOL seriously tho, going to give TD a call this week and inquire about it.

You are absolutely right. I would not be able to sleep at night, knowing i was in your predicament. But i actually know of a trucker (ex co-worker) that did the exact same.... Apparently BDC has an office in Toronto and/or surrounding areas. If TD doesn't pan out, i will look into them. Thank you.

    Thanks for the tip!
