146 truck drivers but only 40 with cdls. Somethings not adding up . . .
austinmike, Toomanybikes and Grumppy Thank this. -
Because there are 1000's on the road without any license or fraudulent licenses. Check out the NYP article about Big Apple Driving School.
NYC driving school rigged driver's licenses for illegal immigrants -- even if they couldn't drive: DAVic Firth, austinmike, Toomanybikes and 3 others Thank this. -
But they were issued cdls. Fraudulently obtained, but still a cdl. So are they counting anyone in a pick up truck as a "truck driver"?
One of my many problems with Operation Midway is the misleading public statements being made by ICE/DHS. Some of the early arrests "made in Chicago" were actually done in Kentucky. I feel this press release is walking a fine line with the truth.Accidental Trucker Thanks this. -
A fraudulent CDL is not a CDL. BUT there are many driving CMVs without any license. And many dispatch/brokerage that are operating illegally and pushing those loads to those drivers. It's been happening for years, but ramped up during the last 4 years.TurkeyCreekJackJohnson, Vic Firth, austinmike and 5 others Thank this.

Still, finding 100 semi truck drivers without a cdl at all in a 30 day period is not in line with inspection results. If they're claiming those 100 had cdls, but we're fraudulently issued, that's even more suspect.
And if we're talking about cracking down on cdl schools and bribed examiners - who is supposed to do that, how many work in the section, and what is their budget?
I'm all for cracking down on the cdl mills and holding examiners accountable for issuing licenses to unqualified individuals. I'm also for vastly increased inspection rates. I'm not opposed to checking immigration status during an inspection - provided they're checking everyone. What's happening isn't that, and we shouldn't pretend otherwise.
