I work for an LTL carrier in Omaha, NE, but I think I'm on the verge of getting fired because of some BS safety reasons. I had four "preventable" incidents in one year, none of them DOT reportable. They were the following:
-Dropped a trailer in the yard. I did all the proper safety procedures for unhooking a trailer, but because the trailer was loaded all the way in the front, it tipped forward. Nothing was damaged but I had to call safety and they blamed me for that incident.
-Backed into a cable line at a customer's house on a gravel driveway. I was doing a lift gate unload and they wanted me to bring the pallet inside, and I backed into the line. The only one I'd truly say was 100% on me.
-Was pulling a set of pups out of a terminal and the front trailer was an older one that had a set of valves on the glad hands. I did not know about these valves because I was never shown them in training due to all of the trailers I had containing the newer glad hand covers. Safety ripped me a new one on that just because I left the terminal and burned the brakes on the back trailer, even though it could've been much worse.
The last one pisses me off the most. This is the one that's probably going to get me canned. I backed into a customer dock. Yes, you heard that right. I backed into a customer dock the same way that I normally do any other one. Well the dock that was already weakened from many previous trucks hitting it decided to break, and safety says that's all my fault, even though I didn't hit it very hard. They're using that as the "4th incident" in one year that they're going to use to fire me. It's super stressful dealing with this and I really need help as I just bought a house and won't be able to make payments on it if I'm out of work for too long.
None of the above incidents were DOT reportable incidents, just internal company things that they're using against me as an excuse to fire me.
Please help in any way you can- I'm looking for work in Omaha that would involve doing CDL driving on a home daily route. I hope that a termination from an LTL carrier won't hinder my chances at finding employment, especially when they're non-DOT. My boss already said that he would reach out to other carrier terminal managers to try and get me another LTL job. Not sure what the future holds right now though, the waiting is the worst part...
