Thank you Mr. HeavyDuty

We are glad to have you join in.
There might be some companies that would take you without a refresher course, but, most companies would want for you to have one.

This school, Johnston Community College in Smithfield, N.C. offers a great refresher course for a very low price. I think maybe $200.00 or so. Give them a call and check it out.
I see that you are from NC, I am not sure which school would be closer and more convenient to you. DCCC also has a great refresher course:

Check out these two threads to get a feel for the schools and the training that they offer.
Job placement assistance would be available to you as well.
Best of Luck!!!Mastertech and Baack Thank this. -
Hello Heavy Duty,
I am KH, a greeter. First off, welcome to the forum. I am sure you will lots of information here that can be used to your benefit. Here is link to the Question from New Drivers as there are threads about refreshers:
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/questions-from-new-drivers/
Also, from what I have seen you most likely have to do the whole entire school minus taking the permits. I had a guy tell me this when he attended RM after a two year sabbatical from the road. Good luck.

Welcome and enjoy the site!

As far as refresher courses go, the general norm is half of the course for half of the price.
Because the student is experienced with CDL A they should be able to jump right in on all aspects of the training.
Get a head start on your training by obtaining your permit. Pick up a CDL manual at your local DMV.
Plus, the crist website to help you to prepare for your permit:

Welcome Heavyduty my CB handle is heavy so you caught my eye.I quit trucking once for five years to dispatch when I started back I had to work for a real jerk for year so I could get my driver status back.It was that or go to school and that wasn't going to happen.
Baack and Mastertech Thank this. -
I was out for three years in the early 90s. My former boss had left the company we both worked for to start his own operation.
Starting from scratch, he needed drivers right away. He just called me out of the blue and asked if I was ready to go back trucking.
Just a lucky break, but it happens sometimes.kickin chicken, Baack and The Challenger Thank this. -
Thanks for the kind words and advice. I spoke with a local (independant) CDL School. The guy said I could take the refreasher course for $1500.00, it would be 80 hours. They will cover everything just like in the regular full class and truck time as well. I know many things have changed in 13 years and I want to be the very best driver that I can.. Still, $1500.00 is a good bit of cash for me. It may be well worth it. What do you think?
Also, do I need to post this somewhere else, after all this the welcome wagon.
Thanks much,Baack Thanks this. -

Baack and kickin chicken Thank this.
