I'd fight the ticket, request a court date if possible. I got one in a personal vehicle a couple months ago and after consulting my lawyer, we fought it in court. He told me Illinois is stupid because even though a seatbelt ticket does not carry points, paying the fine automatically puts you on court supervision and could lead to your license being suspended if you get any other tickets in the future.
"A seat belt violation is considered a non-moving violation in Illinois. If you plead guilty to it, you may receive a sentence of court supervision - and that can mean one less supervision available to you for a moving violation and one step toward a license suspension."Trucker61016, 4noReason and bryan21384 Thank this. -

I understand the OP is asking about getting a seatbelt ticket in his car, not the semi-truck. Does anyone know if the insurance companies for trucking companies treat a seatbelt ticket in a truck driver's car as the very serious ticket of a truck driver not using a seatbelt in the truck? I'm not asking about SHOULD someone use a seatbelt or SHOULD someone deserve a ticket for driving ANY vehicle without a seatbelt. I am asking about how trucking company insurance providers treat a car seatbelt ticket in a car for a CDL holder.
Trucker61016 and 4noReason Thank this. -
Per my company, some drivers are immediately disqualified based on their personal vehicle driving history, insurance companies dont want to take a chance on someone who cant even drive their personal vehicle like an adult.

If there is a way to fight a ticket, except possibly a parking ticket, I would do it. A seat belt ticket no matter what you were driving is bad news for a CDL holder. Especially in today driver market. The cleaner you can keep your record, the better chance you have at something good.
And it doesn't have to show up on your MVR for an insurance company to find it. -
It will show up on your mvr as a conviction that current or potential employers can see. I’d get a hearing on it to try getting it reduced to something less damaging. Doubt you qualify for supervision with a CDL but I’d look into it because it would keep it off your mvr.
