South Dakota charges sales tax when you go to get your plates. Trucks, trailers, personal vehicles, everything. It always cracks me up when people talk about SD not having state income tax like it’s going to save them a bunch of money when there’s literally tax on everything if you live there.Feedman, nextgentrucker, Sons Hero and 3 others Thank this.

Wyoming is similar. We know folks that choose to retire there due to no state income tax, which may make economic sense depending on a lot of factors, but it certainly isn't a given. We have registered work pickups in both Idaho and Wyoming in the past, and the cost in Wyoming at that time was about four times the cost.Sons Hero, Albertaflatbed, Big Road Skateboard and 1 other person Thank this.
