Today started as a good day. I had my load and was headed to my destination in Texas. Then, my work assignment changed mid-drive. I had to backtrack to a different destination that I already passed:

So I go back to the new destination, drop my trailer, and fill out the DVIR:

So now I have to pick up a different trailer to take it to another location, and return to this yard. Once I get back, I have to pick up the original trailer to take to the original destination:

Am I wrong to be pissed off about this?

Sorry for the image quality. I tried to show that the trailer I dropped at the yard matches the trailer I’m picking up later. Dispatch arbitrarily decided to add at least 4 hours to the job I was already doing and, as far as I know, the appointment time st the customer hasn’t changed.

Thats trucking. No reason to get mad if your a mileage driver, make sure they add the miles back to the drop yard, and you probably get paid extra for the drop n hook.
As far as the orginal delivery apt time, if you can not make it, have them reschdule it, wasn't your doing.

I can’t make the original appointment time, and now there’s no time for me to have a reset before next week’s job.

Yes, I’ll get the extra miles. In exchange for having no reset. Driving 10 days straight. Unless they change my upcoming assignment.

Getting mad and stewing over what happened doesn't hurt anyone but you. I say that as someone that boosted my BP by analyzing everyone else's decisions about how my work should have been planned. It is what it is. It's inconvenient and wiped out your reset so now you drive recaps. All you can control is your reaction to bad events. Try not to spin up into a worse situation for yourself. It does such that your schedule/pay for the next week may take a hit for someone else's decisions. Maybe they will make it up to you if you don't rage through the office to make a point.

Sometimes one needs to be a 'Spoke in the Wheel'.....Can you try to work it out on recap without the reset?

You just stopped and covered something that someone else decided needed to come first and will get paid and things will be worked out to the companies advantage.

Customers remember the time things went bad and your company made things right.

Someone should remember that you did derail your day to fix their 'problem' and it might happen sometime down the road.

Being the smiling face in the window above the company logo IS the picture customers remember.

Customers put money in your pocket.

I've spent too many hours in a dispatch chair and truly only remember one day that ended up being perfect.

I can also say that I have spent many more hours dealing with the things that can happen any day of trucking and one can't imagine the messes I've seen.....

I had my reset and the appointment was rescheduled 22 hours later. I feel much better! We’ll see if there are any consequences later on.
