Trying to get my Class A with O and L restrictions. As I understand it, 1 drive axle, no air brakes, no commercial 5th wheel hitch.
The reason, I have been running trailers/rv's out of Indiana for about 1.5 years. With a 1 ton pickup, I am capped at 12,000 gvwr and about 1.70 per mile. With a class A, I think I can push that to 2.25 per mile. If I give the pickup apportioned plates, I can push that higher.
Again, As I understand it, I need 4 things to be able to road test for my CDL.
1.) ELDT class - easy and cheap to get online
2.) CDL permit - study state cdl book, study online, take written test
3.) Someone to certify I can drive forward and backwards
Can anyone confirm or deny my thoughts.
I have heard that Texas has a 3 day hotshot CDL class, I don't know where, and I don't know the cost. Billings had a non tractor cdl class, 3 weeks, 2500$, Now they want 7 weeks and 5500$. Trying to do this cheaper and with less time.

If you are going through the hassle to obtain a class A, why not get it unrestricted?

IMO, like @Animosus said, it's better to go get the unrestricted Class A which will include your ability to do everything you want to do than it is to add this thing then add this other thing, etc until you get 90% of a CDL. Find the cheapest CDL school, which will provide a CDL truck for the state test.
The couple of hundred dollars you MIGHT save now getting just the things you want on your license will cost a lot more than a couple of hundred dollars later on when you find some restriction on your almost-CDL license must be overcome and have to rent a CDL truck, pay a CDL driver to take you to the state exam.lual Thanks this.
