Comcar companies are about the only ones who are going to offer anything in the Tampa area, CCC dry bulk has lost a good majority of their work with the ailing construction, CTL stays busy between Mosaic in Mulberry and the Port of Tampa, you're not going to get rich but they will give you a chance and it's predictable work. Many on here will tell you don't go drive a truck for 450-500 a week like CTL will pay you, but hell you get your 2 years and move on, so many seem to forget the big picture and realize that sometimes achieving your goals means you need to start at the bottom and work your way up, not only does this help a man appreciate the things in life, but I truly believe it says a lot about your character when you can suck it up and see the light at the end of the tunnell. Enough of my gospel, good luck.............

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
Highly possible future florida driver here

I'm starting(emailing) the "scenario" to some of the local company's to get a feel if they will take a INTRASTATE. Getting the 2-3 years is what the goal is. Alot of the better (I guess) company's ask for 2-3 years experience. My chin is up, not just as high as I would like it to be. According to FMSCA site, they made some changes in 1996. Eye sight wasn't as strict. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the way I read it. I will shoot for my tanker and hazmat, that'll help on the options too. I applied to fafsa.ed.gov for my grant in education, waiting on approval. I'm not sure if a PELL grant will apply. I also have tinkered in maintenance on trucks while being a Seabee in the USN, 20 years.

Im sure there not the best place or thay could be ( its all in how you as a person makes it ) but iv been seeing adds on Craigs List in the Orlando section for transportation that Star Transportation has a terminal in Orlando and thay are looking for drivers as of yesterday. Could be worth checking out. Good luck
Redryder262 Thanks this. -
Star requires 6 months and are affiliated with Covenant. Check into local moving companies and dump truck companies. Pritchett requires 2yrs experience. It is sad that companies will not hire out of FL but that is due to freight. Sure some big companies might have local but they are senior drivers.
I do know in Orlando that Cokes yard spotter is a US Xpress employee as they have local coke in both Tampa and Orlando. Tampa might be as well.
Sir my advice if you have your CDL-A is to call greatwide. I was 22 and got called saying I was too young. sure the pay might suck but they have dedicated Publix delivering to their gas stations in Florida and other dedicated.

According to FMCSA, my vision is good enough for KY and TN, Fla (as far as the southeast goes). Being I hate florida anyway, my options opened abit, not sure if i can travel in TN, KY together, even tho they have the same rules. Tha'ts considered crossing state lines, but both have a lesser rule than what the GOV FMCSA has. Such a pitty too. Monocular vision, they word the rulings like this just happened , which it does to people. Difference is, I have perifial vision on both, just fogged in RT eye/ Been this way for 48 years, I've adjusted. Yes, distance judgement can be limited, but one eye won't be as tired as both. Only one has to work, creating less eye fatigue. I may just get my B endorsement, alot of jobs use that class too.
mgt1085 and The Challenger Thank this. -
After alot of thinking, I've decided not to pursue the trucking career. being restricted to inside a state for 3 years (vision issue), it's not worth it. You all have been very forthcoming on knowledge and know how. Thanks.
kickin chicken and Beechvtail Thank this. -
